  With careful urgency, Jared laid Ethan on the bed, his eyes closed in pain and exhaustion. I sobbed quietly as I held onto Ethan's hand, feeling a mix of relief and fear as we awaited the healer's arrival.

  "This is my fault..." Tears continued to stream down my cheeks unabated. I felt the weight of guilt crushing me, unsure of what I had done to deserve this turmoil.

  "Autumn," Jared's voice softened, filled with empathy. "You need to try to calm down."

  I shook my head vehemently, my emotions raw and overwhelming. "Not until he's okay..." I murmured, placing a trembling hand over Ethan's racing heartbeat. It pulsed irregularly, betraying his unconscious state.

  "Please don't leave me," I pleaded softly, gripping Ethan's hand tightly despite his lack of response. The room seemed to close in around us, filled with the tense anticipation of whether Ethan would awaken or slip further away.
