I couldn't find the words to respond. I looked at him, feeling overwhelmed, and before I could gather my thoughts, he leaned in closer. Instinctively, I placed my hand on his chest, gently pushing him away.
He flinched. "I'm sorry-"
"No, it's just..." I shook my head, trying to steady myself. "I don't know what to do... I don't think I'm ready for this, Zane," I confessed, my words stumbling out. "I don't know what I'm feeling or what to say... but I know I can't."
"I haven't changed my mind, but I don't think this is the right time for me," I murmured, looking down, feeling the weight of my indecision.
"I'm sorry..." I stuttered, feeling overwhelmed as I turned and hurried away, leaving him behind, my heart pounding in my chest.
