CHAPTER 38: Back Off Or Face Us

  Emma's POV

My eyes snapped open, and I groggily reached for my phone, the incessant ringing piercing my eardrums. I didn't bother checking the caller's ID, assuming it was probably a pack member or a friend. But as soon as I answered, a familiar, menacing voice made me regret my decision.

"Emma, you traitor," the voice growled. "I should have known you'd run away like the coward you are."

My heart sank, recognizing the Alpha of the previous pack. I had hoped to never hear his voice again.

"What do you want?" I tried to keep my tone neutral, but my heart raced with anxiety.

"You think you can just leave us and join another pack?" He sneered. "You're a disgrace, Emma. You'll pay for your betrayal."

I felt a surge of fear, remembering the abuse and manipulation I suffered under his leadership. I tried to stay calm, knowing I had the support of my new pack.
