CHAPTER 26: Misunderstandings

  Hannah's POV

The next day at the office was anything but ordinary. My thoughts kept drifting back to the bar, to Christian’s unexpected words and the look in his eyes when he told Michael he liked me. A part of me wanted to believe that there was more to what he said, but I quickly shook off that idea. He probably just said those things to shield me from Michael’s accusations.

As I sat at my desk, going through emails, Aubrey’s voice echoed in my mind.

“He must like you, Hannah!” Her words had been playful, but the doubt they planted was now growing roots. But no, I couldn’t let myself entertain that idea. Christian was simply being a good person, stepping in because he saw someone in trouble.

I had just convinced myself to stop overthinking when I heard footsteps approaching. I looked up, and there he was, Christian, looking as sharp and confident as ever. The way he carried himself was natural, but my nerves spiked as soon as our eyes met.
