CHAPTER 84: A Promise to Keep

  Hannah's POV

As I looked at Christian, I could tell his mind was miles away. He sat there, eyes focused on nothing in particular, lost in thought again. I hated this, this tension that hung in the air between us. It had been like this ever since I told him about the job abroad. I knew it wasn't just about my career; it was about us, about the distance and everything that came with it.

I couldn't blame him for being worried. Hell, I was worried too. The job was everything I'd worked for, an incredible opportunity. But every time I thought about taking it, my heart tugged in the opposite direction, reminding me of what I'd be leaving behind. Reminding me of him. That's why I took time to think about it.

"Christian," I said softly, reaching out to touch his hand.

He blinked, his eyes coming back into focus as he looked at me. "Sorry, I was just thinking…"

"I know," I replied, my thumb brushing over his knuckles. "You've been thinking a lot."
