Leila's POV
Sitting on the edge of my bed, I looked out my window past the scruff of the evening light flowing away into the surrounding darkness. The mansion is hushed as something waiting with fear mixed with something about to happen.
Dominic had Mia apologize to me and I also apologize to Luca for lashing out at him. Luca and I had been closer since then. But with Mia, I was still cautious. Even though she apologized. I couldn't help but feel that I needed to be careful around her.
Dominic's behavior towards me surprised me every time, he watched me much more now, it seemed, his eyes following my every movement with the same wariness as a predator sizing up its prey. His touches were lighter too, more deliberate, as if he was afraid of breaking something fragile. And there was the way he spoke to me, that unnamed edge in his voice that always managed to press for an afterthought into my well-being.
