Leila's POV
"Don't push me, Luca," Dominic warned. "I'm serious. She's not for you."
There was a heavy silence between them. I almost felt tension between them, taut like a rope about to snap.
"I mean, that you're the one that has to stay out of things," Luca finally said. His cold resolution was like ice. "You're the one that has had everything, Dominic, but this time, I'm not backing down."
Another silence fell, thick and heavy as an anvil. My heart could have exploded through my chest as I waited, almost afraid to breathe.
"You don't know what you're getting yourself into," Dominic said slowly, but with an edge of desperation that twisted my stomach. "Leila deserves better than being a pawn in whatever game you think you're playing."
"This is not a game," Luca shot back, his tone inflexible. "And She is… she's someone important to me. Maybe more than she is to you."
