CHAPTER 27 Unspoken Tensions

  Dominic's POV

The first light of dawn spilled into the side of the room through the curtain cracks. I opened my eyes a couple of times, trying to shake off the remains of sleep. All the memories from the evening before flashed back: how I carried Leila into her bed and sat beside her, watching her sleep.

My eyes turned to her bed naturally. She was lying there so still, peaceful in her sleep- a huge contrast to all the turmoil it must have gone through last night to bring her to a collapse like that; it wrenched at my bottom line to see her lying at the foot of the staircase, unconscious and vulnerable. It was like an instinct, and I just took her in my arms and brought her here, to my room, just as I was taking her in my arms.
