CHAPTER 48 The Cold Reality

  Dominic's POV

I walked a few feet back and forth in the waiting room, each minute stretching a lifetime. My thoughts were a field of angst, which howled by the increasingly desperate. Leila was curled up in the corner, head down and muffled sobs stifled by her hands. Luca had only arrived shortly before us, his customary veneer of calm was gone in concern.

The doctor entered the waiting room and flipped on a solemn face. I sat up instantly, my heart beating fast.

"Michael Flynn's family?" The doctor enquired about scanning the environment.

Leila's eyes were red, as she looked up to answer the question "Yes, that's us."

"Just follow me," said the doctor in a curt, sharp voice.

Luca and I shared a worried look as we followed the doctor out into the hall. Every step became heavier with a burden, each breath more difficult. I felt the hostility in my gut, a snug ball of terror and something else.
