CHAPTER 51 Don't Forget Me

  Leila's POV

Trying to be strong, I walked into Michael's hospital room. The room was silent, save for the gentle beeping of machines that were more or less keeping him alive. With those crisp white sheets around his small frame, he looked even more fragile than usual and my heart broke for him all over again. My baby brother battling a fight no child should ever have to endure.

As I started walking towards the bed, my eye caught something. Beside him, a small, crumpled piece of paper lay next to his favorite car. I felt a knot in my chest as I stretched out for it, wondering what could be inside.

The response was short,  a single page of notes, folded in half, written in those funny bumpy letters I knew were Michael's. I gasped for a little air after I read his choked out words.

  'Leila,'

'I'm sorry I got sick. I don't want to make you sad.'

'You're the best sister ever. I love you so much. Don't be sad if I have to go to heaven.'
