CHAPTER 107 Cracks In The Facade

  Jocelyn's POV

  "Is he going to make it?" slipped out before the censor in my head could catch it. The nurse didn't even glance at me, her face was about as flat as the fluorescent lights overhead.

  "He's in a critical condition," she dodged, skirting around the question. "But we're doing all we can."

  I balled my fists and fought to hang on. The truth was alive in the air, and it was choking me. Dominic wasn't getting better. He was disappearing a lot faster than anyone was ready and willing to acknowledge. And if he were to die…

  Alessandro flashed into my line of vision, his face unreadably grave. He hadn't spoken with me much since I'd come, and gave only the usual brusque nod of greeting. He no doubt was thinking I was in shock as well as the rest, in fear for Dominic's life. The reason was so much more calculated.
