  The room was still, the dim moonlight filtering through the curtains casting shadows on the walls. My mind was in chaos, torn between heartbreak and anger. Cavin's betrayal replayed in my head like a broken record. How could he? After everything we'd shared, everything I believed about us—it all felt like a lie.

  I hugged my knees to my chest, trying to fight back tears. My parents had been so supportive tonight, pampering me and assuring me that Nikolai was the right choice. They believed I deserved better, and maybe they were right. Cavin's actions were proof enough.
