  The mansion was bathed in the golden glow of evening as I stepped out of Nikolai's car. The day had been long, filled with decisions I felt no control over. From the glittering rings to the engagement dress Cavin had chosen without even being present, everything seemed to be spinning out of my hands. My heart felt heavy as I walked toward the entrance, my mind replaying Cavin's words from last night. "You'll see tomorrow who truly owns you, princess."

  A chill ran down my spine, not just from his possessive tone but from the truth he had revealed about my father. I shook my head, trying to push the memories away. There was no time to dwell on them now. I had to keep moving, even if every step felt like I was sinking deeper into quicksand.
