CHAPTER 86 Family secrets

  Cavin's POV

The soft sound of Eliza's breathing filled the room as I adjusted the blanket over her. She had finally fallen asleep after hours of clinging to me, her exhaustion overtaking the sheer terror she'd endured. Her cheeks were tear-streaked, her hair disheveled, and her fingers still clung loosely to the edge of my shirt even in her sleep.

I didn't move for a moment, watching her fragile form. My chest tightened at the thought of how close I'd come to losing her. The idea of anyone laying a hand on her, taking her away, made my blood boil. But for now, she was here, safe.

With a deep breath, I gently pried her fingers from my shirt, tucking her hand under the blanket. She stirred slightly but didn't wake. I leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead before stepping away, my footsteps deliberately quiet.

I needed a moment to think, to clear my head. But mostly, I needed answers.
