Chpter 42

"I'm sorry for putting you through this," he murmured, his breath brushing against my ear. His tender voice soothed the storm in my soul. "You're going to hurt yourself," I protested, feeling his pain as if it were my own. But he silenced me with a fierce kiss, pushing me onto the bed. His injured leg faltered slightly.

My body felt as if it were on fire—every nerve alight.

"Ah…" I gasped when he finally pulled away, only to feel his lips trail down to the hollow between my breasts. "Alexander, please stop. You're injured. I can't bear to see you in pain because of me. Please," I pleaded.

But he wasn't listening. Something was different about him. His lips found mine again, but this time, his kiss was soft and slow, unlike the earlier fervent one. It was almost too much—just his kiss alone sent me spiraling toward a crescendo of emotion.
