[Chapter 45]
The next day... I was the first one among the four of us to wake up. I immediately went down the stairs. When I peeked below, I saw Jerome still sleeping.
I quietly went down and headed to the kitchen to prepare something for him to eat—so that when he wakes up later, he’ll have something to eat before he leaves.
I moved carefully because I didn’t want to wake him up. I wasn’t going to show myself to him later anyway. Ugh!
I looked around—where’s the milk Garnett and I bought the other day?
Until I saw it up high.
I was about to reach for it when I suddenly felt someone gently hug me from behind.
I froze…
My heart was pounding…
He buried his face in the side of my neck.
I-I couldn’t move…
I-Is he awake?
THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP
I was about to remove his arms from my waist, but he tightened his embrace instead.
“Five minutes,” he whispered.
I stopped resisting and just let him. I don’t know why, but my chest started to hurt again.
