CHAPTER 19

Chole was completely stupefied on her spot. Her heart ceased to function in the few moments Jonathan said those words. She saw death standing face to face with her and she wasn't ready to look back at him.

Jonathan turned away without saying anything further and Chole didn't dare to keep her act any further.

She was afraid that Jonathan might lose it and disfigure her face or even worst. She dare not take that risk.

Jonathan had just taken a few distance away from the civilian meeting hall when somebody spoke out behind him.

"You shouldn't treat a woman that way, leaving her crying like that."

Jonathan was filled with so much rage that he didn't notice somebody was behind him. He was thinking of a way to make Chole pay for what she did, but there was no evidence to back his claim, and that was making him angry.

Jonathan turned to face the person that had spoken. He saluted right away when he saw that it was commander Greyson.

"Sir!"

Jonathan straightened up on his spot.

Greyson placed his hands on his back and casually walked to Jonathan front view.

"I know it's wartime and so many catastrophes have lined up in your path, but that doesn't mean you should treat your woman rudely. She is strong enough to date a dead man walking, don't make it harder than that."

Jonathan felt like venting his anger out, but what good will that be. It would definitely make Greyson feel pity on him and then what, then he would feel pity for himself.

NO!

He wasn't that kind of a man. Even though he wasn't a real man, he totally had grown past adolescence, and moreover, Chole doesn't deserve to be occupying any space in his thoughts anymore.

"I think a secret whore deserves more than that Sir, but as a gentleman. I kept it simple."

Greyson eyebrows raised when he heard that. He knew exactly what Jonathan was hinting.

"Fortunately many are bold enough to stick with us, but some of them are worse than the serpent that deceived Eve in the garden. Everything has to do with luck when you involve another person into your life, soldier."

Greyson tapped Jonathan on his shoulder.

"At least you noticed yours earlier. It could've been worse if you were married."

Jonathan gave Greyson a nod, if only Greyson knew he had faced this for five years now. He straightened his body more and voiced out.

"I don't want to even think about it now, Sir. Like you said, we are currently at war, all I want to do now is to see how I can be of service to my country. I want to ensure Dreamway wins this war."

This was the reason that Jonathan lost control of his pretentious act. He just couldn't see himself plotting to see his wife cheating on him, while he focused on helping Dreamway.

What if he becomes a renowned figure quickly and he ends up not catching Chole like he wanted.

Jonathan didn't want any distraction on fulfilling why he was brought back to life by God.

His hatred for the corrupt leaders of Dreamway was more than what he had for his wife.

Greyson nodded repeatedly to Jonathan's words.

"That is a good improvement, soldier. It's hard to get over with, but it must be gotten over with, otherwise it would ruin you."

Greyson placed his hands behind his back again and faced the military base direction.

"You are leaving for the headquarters right away with the new recruitment. Dreamway is finally ready to fight back. The country leaders have decided and we will be going to war with Alphacrest in the next coming weeks."

Jonathan cheeks moved when he heard that, but he knew this was all for publicity. In his previous world, they made it look like they had come up with a massive plan to destroy Alphacrest, not knowing it was false confidence to fool the citizens.

They gave it all the hype it could get, but when the war started, Alphacrest ran through them like they were ants in the battlefield, and they crushed Dreamway like Dreamway was some kind of termite hills.

Jonathan's expression darkened when he thought about it. A lot of people died during the war, not knowing they were betrayed by their leaders.

Jonathan subconsciously squeezed his fist hard. This time it would be different, he would make sure Dreamway doesn't lose the war.

Greyson faced Jonathan and continued.

"Meet me in my office when you are done packing your bags. There is something I want to give you as you go to the headquarters."

Jonathan's eyebrows moved a little. He wondered what Greyson wanted to give him, it was a good thing he had already packed his bags, how would he have located Greyson office.

"I have already done that, Sir!"

Jonathan saluted again. Greyson lips formed a half smile seeing Jonathan was fully ready for the battle. He examined Jonathan's face all through his earlier conversation and he saw a real soldier. A man that would willingly give his life away on the battlefield.

"Come with me, soldier!"

Greyson said as he took the lead. He brought Jonathan to his office and asked Jonathan to shut the door. Jonathan shut the door and turned to look around Greyson's office. There were some medals on the wall behind Greyson office tables, just three medals. Jonathan could tell that Greyson cherished the medals because they were sparkling.

Apart from the medals which wasn't surprising, Greyson office was filled with books. Jonathan didn't know a military office could be decorated like this. He didn't see Greyson as a bookworm, he thought Greyson was the kind that likes action upon action. This makes Jonathan wonder if this had something to do with the world, perhaps all the high ranking military personnel were bookworms, an act they learn to gain more knowledge.

Regardless of the fact that this world contained the same people as his former world and the same events were happening, the history of this world might be different from his previous ones, after all there was magic in this world.

Greyson removed his military cap and placed it on his table.

"I was born into a family that only awakens the martial art ability. My father and my great grandfather all awakened the martial arts ability, I was the one that broke that circle."

Greyson looked at Jonathan and continued.

"It's a rare thing to happen. I know you probably thought that people that come from families that have a bloodline relationship with an ability would always awaken that ability, but in some rare cases somebody from the family might end up awakening something different, and that was me in my family."

Jonathan had no idea what Greyson was talking about, but he was slowly putting the pieces together to get the whole picture.

It seemed there were some families in this world that only awakens a particular ability. Those families have a bloodline relationship with that ability.

Jonathan doesn't know how that was done, but it doesn't seem like a contract or anything. According to the way Greyson was saying it, he believes it has something to do with reputation. Jonathan believes any member of those families have a very high tendency of awakening the same abilities as their parents and it just goes on and on until it becomes a generation thing, only in a rare case would somebody awaken something different from what now seemed like the family bloodline ability.

"It must be horrible to be different."

Jonathan voiced out. He couldn't imagine what it would seem like for people like that, unless they awakened a higher ability, otherwise it would be pretty depressing.

Greyson cheeks moved a little.

"No. It wasn't that horrible. I awakened the Swordsmanship ability which is considered as a higher ability than the martial art so it was a plus, however my daughter didn't awaken anything.

She is just a normal human being."

"Oh.. that must really be painful for the family."

Greyson nodded twice before reaching to the drawer on his table. He brought out four wooden square boxes, and placed them on the table.

"That was the end of my family lineage because I chose not to get married again. Meanwhile my daughter hasn't gotten married yet, perhaps her child would awaken the martial art ability or something else, regardless of that, it will be a new family name."

Greyson arranged the four square boxes on the table before facing Jonathan again.

"Since my family lineage has ended, I have been looking for who to give these skills to. My family kept these four skills with them hoping to pass it down to me the moment I awakened the martial art ability, but I awakened something else so it was useless.

I kept it, hoping to pass it down to my child, but my child didn't awaken anything, and it was useless again. I brought it here with the aim of giving it to a worthy soldier, but I haven't meant anybody that matched the criteria."

"Since we are in wartime, this base will temporarily be shut down from receiving new recruitments, so I won't be seeing new talents in a while. Who knows when the war is going to end, I might quit being a commander by the time the war ends, or I might be dead by then. So, I will be passing this down to you, Jonathan Hayes.

Don't make me regret it!"

Greyson opened all four boxes at once and Jonathan immediately got a message from the system.
