Darren's POV
"Gentlemen, please follow me."
Ten minutes to midnight, Jason guided us out of the dining room to a hidden door at the far end of a dark corridor.
Balthazar had pushed to the back of the line, walking beside me as he snickered in anger.
"What's got you so riled up?"
"Tch. For one, this is all a farce. I heard rumours that Jason has been pushing to be the Chancellor."
Chancellor? My father was the one to create the council. He was the first Chancellor and ever since he died, that seat had remained empty.
Naturally, I should have inherited it as his son but the old vampires came to an agreement to make me the Grand Patriarch. A glorified position but one that I welcomed to avoid any conflicts, whether in interest or authority.
