"I don't understand why anyone would still care about these things," I said.

"Don't you agree, Scarlett?"

I took another sip of my drink, carefully observing darling's every move.

Her hands were trembling involuntarily, and she stammered as she spoke.

"By the way, Scarlett, which store did you work at part-time before?"

"Honey, why are you suddenly asking about this?"

"I just thought that store owner was pretty nice, giving you such a high wage."

"You managed to support yourself and your brother with just that part-time job."

Scarlett swallowed hard. "That store went out of business."

"Honey, this drink is making me sleepy. I'm going to bed."

In the blink of an eye, darling had vanished from the living room.

She probably didn't want to talk to me anymore, afraid she might let something slip.

My gaze fell on the other glass, which she hadn't even touched.

Her acting and excuses were a bit clumsy.
