Aaron looked at his team. He had been chosen as the leader of the red team, which had 200 members, including hopefuls. His eyes fell on someone with black hair and red eyes.
He knew this person was new, so he called him over. "Hey, you! Come here."
Tom had chosen not to be the team leader. Taking charge of a team in an area where he had no experience would have been like putting a baby in charge of an army.
He saw that the team leader, Aaron, had chosen himself. Aaron said to him, "Hey, new guy, if you want to learn something, it would be good for you to stand back and observe."
Tom nodded, and Aaron gave him a nod of satisfaction before turning to address the rest of the team. "Alright, guys, let's put a new hole in these bastards' asses!"
Everyone shouted with excitement as the blue team emerged. The captain of the opposing team, Darren, was a six-year soldier. Aaron said, "Considering Darren's personality, he will take an aggressive approach, so I plan to use the crescent technique."
The crescent technique was a strategy where some of the team members would pull the opposing members towards them, while others would form a crescent-shaped formation to trap them.
This technique had been used by the Ottoman state in old wars, but given the terrain, it was likely to be effective again. Aaron was thinking that this technique could be practiced with the opposing commander's personality in mind when the game started. He shouted the orders, and the team scattered.
Tom had been chosen to be in the center to bait the opposing team. As team leader, Aaron would hide the flag at the top and provide communication and orders.
Tom took cover behind a collapsed wall. After 20 minutes, he started to hear voices. Someone was approaching, so he stuck his head out to get a clearer view.
The opposing team was coming from the casino side. They were moving in a regular formation, looking around. Tom grabbed his radio and said, "They said there are 6 people coming from the casino side."
"Understood," one of his teammates replied. Tom felt something stirring inside him, even though there was no risk of death.
He wanted to jump out and run at his opponents, but he knew that would be foolish. He wasn't like Flash, and though his new stats and active abilities might allow him to dodge 6 or 7 bullets, he'd eventually be riddled with holes.
Tom realized that he had been given a month to prepare, and that he and these NPCs were the only ones in this test. He was a smart person and knew that others would have different tests and preparation times, but this system had given him a month.
Tom was not egotistical, but he recognized that his abilities were incredibly powerful. His calmness and emotionlessness gave him great potential.
He also realized that whatever exam the system was preparing for him would be very difficult, and he would die if he wasn't well-prepared.
Tom had lost the will to die after experiencing this excitement. He wanted to feel this adrenaline again.
He needed to improve his skills. He pulled out a smoke grenade and threw it in front of him. The other soldiers immediately reacted, firing 4 or 5 shots into the fog.
Tom had different plans. He tied his uniform to a stick, then attached it to a rope. He prepared to enter the fog.
He let go of the rope and entered the fog. The soldiers on the other side started shooting as soon as they saw the uniform. By the time they realized it was just the uniform, it was too late.
Tom rolled out of the fog and fired three shots. The two soldiers were close enough that it wasn't hard for him to kill them with his entry-level gun skills.
By the time the remaining soldiers realized what happened, their heads had already exploded.
