Dion's Plan

'calm, steady and confident, haha, hurray!... for we've got a Leader '

Day One:

To say Obinna was shocked was an understatement, they were barely alive mind you, after braving countless horrors and multiple life threatening situations and even now they weren't even safe - as they were currently trying to figure out what was the best hole to crawl into - and yet, this guy was planning for them to go around picking surviving students and teachers up right in the midst and under the nose of these cannibalistic creatures.

You could imagine the level of disbelief currently showing on his face.

Not just him though, the others showed reactions with varying levels of similarity.

Even James was frowning, his eyes though were calmly probing Dion.

"Erm... SP... you mean...?" the beautiful senior girl stuttered.

Facing them Dion suddenly laughed.

" Oh, my bad, my bad," he smiled. "I think you misunderstood me".

There was a few seconds of silence where they watched him curiosly, waiting for him to continue, but Dion just watched them with a smile.

"How so, senior?"

This time it was Pelumi who spoke up when it became obvious Dion was content with letting the silence drag on.

"We can't exactly go around fighting zombies and rescuing people," Dion said, gesturing comically. "That's stupidly suicidal, and I'm not stupid," he paused, then added. " Neither am I suicidal too... you should know... just in case".

Everyone, "..."

There was another drawn out silence with Dion once again refusing to continue his explanation.

"So..."

Resisting the urge to punch him in the face, James spoke up, fearing Dion would drag this out much longer than it needed to be.

Dion smiled a million dollar smile.

"'If Musa doesn't go to the mountain, the mountain will come to him,'" he said, he spread his hand like some heavenly sage imparting wisdom on mere mortals. "Just because we can't go to them doesn't mean they can't come to us".

James squinted his eyes, once again resisting the urge to pummel that smug smirk off his face. But he still couldn't figure out what the genius plan was here.

Attracting the attention of the survivors would prove to be as difficult if not more so than saving them, as the zombies - which had been proven to be especially sensitive to sounds - would also be attracted.

This would cause a stampede of zombies as their numbers would only increase in proportion to the distance their sounds would reach, and in such situations no sane survivor would be willing to come towards you as it meant immediate death.

This would then put you in a situation where you had the attention of every zombie on the block, but no firepower or manpower to take any down.

Yeah,real sure death strategy.

'It seems he hasn't recovered fully yet,' James wondered.

"Hey, how - "

Obinna had just started talking when Dion cut him off.

"We'll use those," he pointed at a megaphone hanging from the ceiling in the hallway.

"Huh," Obinna was confused. "But that will just make all of them to rush over here...," he then pointed at their transparent windows which suddenly seemed so thin. " ... and I don't think that's a good idea".

"You're right," Dion nodded.

"Then..." Obinna was getting even more confused.

Dion's expression suddenly turned a tad bit serious.

"There is something you must have failed to notice," he said. "These things don't possess cognitive abilities, they don't think, instead their actions are controlled by their instincts... you might even say they are as dumb as a newborn baby".

They waited silently, eager for him to continue.

"So, I reckon that if you produce a sound through the megaphones scattered across the hallways, they will only attack those and not bother about the actual source of it".

There was another pause where everyone tried to understand where he was headed, which was met with little success, till James suddenly opened his eyes wide and grabbed Dion by his shoulders.

" You don't mean..."

" Yes," Dion smiled. " If we can get to the broadcasting room, we can relay a message to every student or teacher still alive, without worrying about the zombies understanding the context ".

" That's brilliant, senior," Pelumi beamed, in her excitement a blush silently crept up her cheeks.

Obinna and the other girl nodded in affirmation.

But then...

" What exactly do we tell them," Obinna pondered. " We can't exactly tell them to meet here, this place doesn't exactly suggest... safe".

Dion nodded, " I've got that figured out too".

" If you remember, we have the larger common room just across from the broadcasting room," he said. " Considering it is used for indoor morning address or large social gatherings, I don't think there would be any problems containing the whole school in there... or at least those still alive".

Everyone paused slightly, visilbly disturbed by his last statement.

It was still unbelievable, almost like an ethereal dream, just this morning most of them had been trying hard to catch up on very 'important' classwork, but now everyone was forcibly adapting to a new reality created from their phone alarms.

" Not to mention," Dion continued. " The common room is also used for our PTA meetings, so we used the store there to store all the food items we received during the recent meeting, those should be enough to feed the whole school for months... although I don't think it will be that long, we just have to last a day or two and the military should come get us, afterall, this must be a national crisis ".

" Oh yeah!" Obinna finally interjected. " I gave you some boys earlier to move all those food into the store ".

After that, Dion was stunned to notice everyone staring at him in unison, a strange look in their eyes.

Dion, "..."

A few seconds passed and they were still silent, so Dion got irritated somewhat and spat.

"What!?"

They caught themselves staring and looked away.

" Nothing ".

" No problem ".

" None".

" Uh huh".

Dion was still confused by their sudden reactions.

" Well... SP, it's just that," Obinna scratched his head awkwardly. " Did you think of all that right now, and made a plan accordingly?"

Dion did not reply.

Taking his silence as affirmation, Obinna exclaimed.

"Damn!"

"You're amazing, senior," Pelumi exclaimed.

The others nodded, Dion was speechless when he saw the usually stoic James also nodding his head.

After a while of indulging themselves, the atmosphere suddenly became tense and serious.

"The common room is on this floor," Dion pushed his glasses up with a finger. "This will make things a tad bit easier, but make no mistakes, once we get out the door here even the slightest mistake from any one of you... will result in all of our deaths".
