Dion's Plan (Part two)

'and from the belly of despair, mankind takes its first step towards survival '.

Day One

The journey from the class to the common room was actually not a difficult one, as they were all on the same floor, in fact it was just at the end of the other hallway after a left turn which turned it into a straight forward march.

But that was in itself a problem, as all it took to derail their smooth sailing journey was a couple of zombies, seeing as they couldn't take a detour they would be forced to go right through, and that was without a doubt dangerous as up till now none of them here had killed a zombie before.

'But that doesn't mean they can't be killed'.

He remembered the confidence and cold blooded decisiveness exhibited by Osaremeh and his two friends, although it was still a suspicion, he was almost sure they had taken the life of at least one zombie, or perhaps even a human life, but at least a zombie.

Now it was all about how they did it.

'How did they do it?'

Dion's thoughts churned, he remembered everything he had encountered about the zombies today, his mind broke down all the complex details and simplified it, turning it into information he could use to create a scenario, a perfect scenario that will guarantee all of their lives and hopefully the lives of the survivors who would be - God-willing - joining up with them soon.

Possibilities flashed, already occured incidents flashed too, each cross checking each other and removing every wrong information, he analyzed based on what he knew and used fact based speculations to deduce those he didn't.

Soon he froze and his eyes widened.

'I see...'

He nodded.

Then he turned to the others, "Let's go".

James went out first, he looked up and down the hallway and then looked back at them still in the class and nodded.

There was a brief moment of tense silence before they too stepped out.

Dion nodded at James who then darted silently to the end of the hallway and looked down the left hallway, after a small pause he looked in the opposite direction before drifting back silently to their location.

"Two left, but none right," James stated soldierly.

Dion frowned.

'How great'.

Just their luck.

The zombies just had to be in the direction they wanted to go in and made themselves scarce in the opposite direction, it was as if some omnipotent being was playing a trick on them, but then this whole situation, zombies and all, seemed like the work of a horror movie loving god.

'... or goddess...'

He shook his head violently.

Focus!

Actually the situation wasn't that bad, not because two zombies weren't scary enough, but simply for the fact that he had anticipated it.

Yes, he had.

He wasn't expecting everything to work out so easily, perfectly yes but not easily. Since he had anticipated it he had also prepared a solution for it.

He turned towards James.

"How good a shot are you?"

James paused for a bit, then shrugged.

"I can't exactly hit a bee from a hundred yards, but I should manage a man from less than twenty".

" A man?" Dion smiled.

James paused, then looked at Dion silently, offering no further comments.

Dion didn't push either, he felt it was gonna take a while for him to comprehend the human being called James.

'No rush...'

After all they still had to survive here first.

"A shot?" Obinna suddenly interrupted, looking back and forth between Dion and James. "What are you talking about?"

Dion also noticed the looks of interest from the two girls.

James looked towards Dion, who in turn nodded.

There was no reason to hide the fact that James had a gun from them, after all he would be using it before them in moments.

With a sigh, James reached behind his belt and pulled out a stainless looking pistol, it had a round nuzzle and looked quite heavy.

Gasp!

There was a sharp intake of breath, and for a moment Dion was scared that one of them would scream and reveal their position, ruining his plan in the process. But they displayed a high level of maturity, as after the gasp no other sound leaked out, they were quite normal about it - if you ignored the looks their eyes gave.

After the day - no hour - they all had, it wasn't that surprising that a student would be in possession of a gun, after all if any of them had seen one they wouldn't have hesitated to pick it up. But that being said, how did James get one?

Although they wondered, no one asked about it, at least right now.

"The plan is quite simple," Dion spoke quietly. "James you just have to go there and shoot those c*cksuckers in the head".

Obinna and the two girls, "..."

But the most surprising thing was how quick James nodded.

"Got it".

He got up and began approaching the bend.

"Wait, wait a minute," Obinna said in an exaggerated whisper. " Are you two crazy?" then he looked at James in astonishment. " And you, what do you mean 'got it'?"

James shrugged but remained silent.

"Do you have a problem, Obi?" It was Dion who finally spoke.

Hearing the 'innocent' curiosity in his voice, Obinna nearly ran mad.

"Yes! Yes, lots of them!" He nearly screamed. "That's a gun you fools, the sound will make this hall crawling with zombies the minute you shoot, then what will happen to us here? And don't get me started on what will happen if you can't kill those things with that gun. In fact, how many bullets are in - "

" Hey, hey, calm down alright," Dion interfered, he felt Obinna wasn't going to stop if he didn't. " I've got everything figured out ".

" Yeah?" Obinna still looked unconvinced.

Dion sighed, even the two girls were watching him with uncertainty.

"You see, when James scouted the hallways earlier he said there weren't any zombies around - "

" You can't be serious - " Obinna was about speaking, but Dion waved a hand dismissively.

"Let me finish," he said. "You are worried that the sound of the gun shot will echo and thus invite them, right?"

They remained silent as that was indeed true.
