A few more years had passed. Young Krishnamrit was now a teenager. Him and his mother were now living in a different city, in a different house. His mother used to work all the time. As there was no one else supporting her anymore, she had to do everything by herself. She worked to earn money for herself, she worked to earn money for her son, she worked for her son's education, she worked to put food on the table, she was constantly working. Teen Krishnamrit had now started attending school regularly as he didn't have much of a choice. He wanted to make his mother proud by scoring as many marks as possible in each exam. Year by year he excelled in school, scoring high marks in each subject, but as he grew older and moved up in class it started becoming more and more difficult for him. The triumphant expression he had whenever someone praised him for his marks had now started turning into nervous laughter as he started getting more and more burdened by the expectations placed upon him. To fulfill his mother's ambitions, he started studying overtime. 10 hours, 13 hours, 15 hours, everyday, taking constant tutions. The only thing that mattered about his existence were his marks. He kept studying in fear of not receiving validation. After all, those who don't study become nothing in life. Just disposable trash. That's what he believed. Despite what he believed, he couldn't help but feel a disinterest in everything that he did. His disinterest led to him putting less effort in his studies, leading his marks to decline. One day he was sitting on his table and studying, he didn't have any interest in what he was doing so he had an annoyed look on his face. I was standing near him looking at what he was doing, he was so focused that he didn't notice me. He was studying mathematics, a subject he loved, but slowly and gradually, lost interest in. He was looking at the questions in irritation having no idea how to solve them. Even when he didn't know how to solve them, he had no chance but to do it as his assignment was meant to be submitted tomorrow.
"Damnit, I hate this", he grits his teeth in anger, holding the pen tightly to the point his hands start fidgeting. He then looks up and notices me.
"Huh? A Cockroach? Whatever", he didn't care much as he was so annoyed by his current situation.
"Humans do all this stupid bullshit", I chuckled to myself feeling a sense of superiority over the idiocy that was being displayed tho deep down I couldn't help but believe it was more interesting than just survival and reproduction. His mom walks in the room with a tired expression.
"Honey, I prepared food for you, you must be tired after studying all the time", she speaks in a tired voice. Teen Krishnamrit turns to her annoyed.
"Just go away mom, I'm busy right now", he scratches his head even more confused how to do the task he had no choice in taking part in with a pen in his mouth. His mom sighed and then spoke with a stern voice
"Fine, you better score good marks, they have been declining recently, don't want to see it again", she leaves in anger slamming the door hard behind her.
Teen Krishnamrit sees his mother leave and gets even more annoyed by her words, he scratches his head in anger and just throws all his books to the ground in frustration. He then goes and lies down in his bed, both physically and mentally tired of his constant routine. He falls asleep without completing his assignment.
"They both are so pathetic" I think to myself tho slightly starting to feel bad for them, after seeing all the events that took place, one after another.
The next day, teen Krishnamrit wakes up and gets ready for school. An exhausted look on his face before even starting the day, knowing that the math teacher is gonna give him hell today. I get inside his backpack and get taken to his school. Making sure to hide properly and not get crushed by the books. He reaches school and walks through the dormitories trying not to make eye contact with anyone. I didn't understand why he did so and it filled me with curiosity. He looked at no one and no one looked at him either. Quite a strange situation I thought. He entered his class, still maintaining a quiet demeanor, he simply went to sit in the corner, by the window and looking out through it without speaking with anyone in the classroom. No one made an effort to acknowledge him either. Neither the teachers, nor the students. I wondered why that was the case. Everyone chatted amongst themself, laughing and giggling with each other, enjoying each other's company, while he just looked outside disinterested. The class began and the maths teacher walked in. Teen Krishnamrit knew he was fucked.
"Before starting the class, I would like to collect the assignments I gave all of you, yesterday, keep the notebooks at my desk" the teacher said with a stern voice
One by one each student went to put their notebooks, Teen Krishnamrit was tense, he was sweating, wondering what he should do. He then sighs and gets up, he walks to the teacher and tells him about the situation. The teacher was furious.
"What? Why didn't you do it? I told you to do it!" He asks in an angry and loud voice
"H- hey sir I'm sorry, I was just tired and sleepy-
"SHUT UP, GO AND DO IT NOW" he shouts while slapping him hard across his face.
Teen Krishnamrit sighs and returns to his table, as he did, he heard a few people snickering, making a mockery of his misery, making him feel humiliated, he sighs, sits down and starts completing the assignment in frustration. After a while, it was recess. Everyone was eating their lunch, sitting in groups, going out to the playground, laughing and enjoying while Teen Krishnamrit was still completing his assignment. He then sighed in exhaustion and decided to take a break. He took out his lunchbox and started eating. He looked around in the classroom and saw a girl sitting in the middle benches, eating her lunch. He blushed and looked away. He had a small crush on her. Teen Krishnamrit had discovered the urge for sexual intercourse.
"Heh, what a pervert!" I thought to myself. Humans were perverted. They had sexual urges and desires everyday, every time of the year, unlike me who only did during mating seasons. They got attracted to each other all the time. Attraction is perversion. That's what I believed deep down. He kept sneaking glances at her. She noticed that he was looking at her and turned towards him. He blushed more and smiled, but she made a disgusted expression and turned away. He stopped smiling and his expression turned into a sad frown.
"Huh? She finds him hideous?", I thought to myself, not sure how to react to such a thing as I looked quite hideous myself. I just continued to look at him going back to doing his assignment with a sad expression. Teen Krishnamrit had now discovered that he can't have something he wants just because he wants it.
Teen Krishnamrit kept doing the assignment till the last period. Despite his best efforts of doing so, he couldn't complete it. The teacher walked inside the classroom to take the assignment from him. He looked at the teacher and sighed. He then spoke.
"Look sir, I'm sir sorry I couldn't comple-
"Forget about it", the teacher replied with a darkened expression on his face. He clearly wasn't taking any of his bullshit. The teacher then proceeded to make a mockery of him, make a mockery of his existence, make a mockery of his mother for being poor and unable to pay the fees on time and make a mockery for his divorced mother for not having a husband. Teen Krishnamrit's eyes widened at the audacity of the teacher. He got angry for a moment for the teacher talking about him and his mother like that, but then he turned around and saw the whole class laughing and mocking him as well. He heard the same snicker that he heard before, he looked around to see who it was. It was the girl that he liked. His heart sank. He just looked down and took the humiliation.
After the bell rang, all students walked out to board their buses. Teen Krishnamrit was walking through the dormitories looking down, utterly defeated. I was still in his bag looking from a small hole. All of a sudden he gets dragged to a corner and is thrown to a wall, his bag falls down so I immediately crawl out of the hole.
"What the hell?", Teen Krishnamrit spoke as he looked up at the few group of boys surrounding him. It was the group of guys that usually bullied him. They all towered over him while smirking, a smug look on their faces.
"Hey look it's that loser with a divorced mom, I bet your father beat her up everyday" they all laugh and mock him.
"How does she even live without a man? I bet she has to do everything and you're just a burden to her!", they laugh even louder.
"D- don't speak about my mother like that!" Teen Krishnamrit replies in anger, tho also a little scared.
"Aww what you gonna do? Cry?", they keep laughing.
"Pathetic nerdy scrawny little bastard". One of them kicks him in the balls and Teen Krishnamrit falls down holding his crotch in pain.
"Look at how weak he is, fell off after one kick", they continued to beat him up, kicking his stomach and crotch, punching him on his face and stomach, again and again. I quickly went to the corner to avoid getting crushed by all their feet, and saw the beating from a distance. At that moment I thought, feeling bad for Teen Krishnamrit.
"Humans are not only violent, apathetic and perverted....
...they are cruel as well."
"Hey, wasn't he looking at that girl earlier?", one of them spoke
"Oh yeah, I remember seeing that", he turns to Teen Krishnamrit
"This idiot thinks she'll lay him with a face like that, you should just sell your sexual organs I bet they'd be more useful that way", he kicks his face as Teen Krishnamrit groans in pain.
"Haha! it looks even worse now!" They keep kicking his face until it is completely bruised. They then proceed to leave.
Teen Krishnamrit tries to get up, beaten and bruised, blood spilling down from his head. He wipes his clothes, wears his bag and starts walking home. I was still in his backpack, feeling sad that I had no way of helping him. He walks through the streets, looking down. After a while, the clouds started covering the sky and it began to rain. All the people walking by took out their umbrellas to save themselves from the rain. Krishnamrit didn't have an umbrella but he didn't care and just continued walking. He reaches home and sees that it's empty, seems like his mom hadn't returned home yet, probably working, still having no time for her son. He sighed and started tending to his wounds. While doing it, he noticed me.
"Why are there so many fucking cockroaches", he muttered to himself annoyed, yet making no effort to kill me. After a while his mother returns home and sees his condition.
"O- oh my god what happened to your face?", she asks in concern, quickly running to him and putting a hand on his shoulders, checking his face.
"It's fine mom, I'm fine, nothing happened", he simply replies, not in the mood to talk.
"B- but your face- who did this to you?"
"I SAID IT'S FINE MOM, JUST SHUT UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE", he replies in anger and annoyance. His Mom gets taken back by his outburst and then replies in an angry voice.
"What? Why are you speaking to me like this? Do you know how much I work to keep this house running, to pay your fees. I'm working for you all the time yet you can't even do the simplest of things! Even your marks are declining!"
"Did I ask for any of that?", he replies in an annoyed yet emotional voice clearly not in the mood for this.
"Stop being ungrateful! I didn't raise you to be a rude disrespectful brat! I raised you all this time to see you become someone who would make me proud!"
"AND DID I BECOME ANYTHING? DID I MAKE YOU PROUD? I DIDN'T, DID I? SO WHY DON'T YOU JUST GIVE UP ALREADY? YOU FIRST GIVE BIRTH TO ME AND THEN MAKE ME GO THROUGH ALL OF THIS AND THEN BLAME ME FOR NOT LIVING UP TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS! WHY DID YOU GIVE BIRTH TO ME IN FIRST PLACE? I WISH I WASN'T BORN, YOU SHOULD'VE JUST ABORTED ME! YOU GAVE BIRTH TO TRASH AND NOW I LIVE LIKE TRASH, JUST ACCEPT IT", he lashes out at her after finally having enough, all his emotions boiling up because of recent events. His mother's eyes widen in shock at first listening to her son act out like that but then her expression darkens, she grits her teeth in anger and fingers start fidgeting.
"Y- you-
She tries to speak but is unable to form any coherent sentence, so she simply decides to slap him hard across his face, he moves back a little surprised by how hard she slapped him and looks at her in fear. She also moves back realising what she did after seeing the look of fear in her son's eyes.
"I- I-
She tries to speak again, still unable to form any coherent sentence, she then proceeds to sit down at the couch, she buries her face in her hands and starts crying.
"I wish I never had you" she speaks while crying.
Hearing this, Teen Krishnamrit is heartbroken. He simply gets up and goes inside his room. He locks the door so that she doesn't come in. Shutting himself away, the only solution he knows to every problem. He lies on the bed, gets inside his blanket and starts crying until he sleeps. I fly up to his bed as he sleeps and use my small wings to fan his face. His expression turning more relaxed by the wind falling on his face as he sleeps. Teen Krishnamrit had shut himself away, yet again.
