Gianna's POV
Dennis had barely left when Jessica showed up at my suite, smiling. After a bit of excited insistence from me, she started telling me about a young man she'd met while wandering the yard.
"Gianna," she said with a grin, "I'm sure he is my mate." She went on to describe him in detail, saying he was a warrior from Alpha King's guard.
"He was on duty," she added, "so of course, he couldn't come over and hug me or anything. But when our eyes met, I saw the corner of his mouth twitch into a smile."
I was happy for her, truly. But deep inside, I felt a twinge of jealousy that she'd found her mate. I used to dream of having that kind of connection. And now... choosing to be a breeder, I had long given up on the hope of mating.
Even if one day I really did meet my mate, I couldn't ever forget Dennis.
"I'm sure he just couldn't get away. I bet he'll come looking for you soon," I said, trying to keep her hopeful, and she was more than willing to take my word for it.
