Chapter 24: The New Guy

My heart raced as I reluctantly removed my top. The mask was the only barrier keeping my identity concealed. Twirling around I knew that I had to leave soon.

Seeing her drained me of my confidence.

Without a normal graceful flow, my movements felt choppy. Shakily, I dropped the kilt to my ankles, but I couldn’t kick it like I normally would for theatrical effect.

Suddenly, I felt faint.

Turning, I leaned to grab the side of the catwalk, but my heel became tangled in the polyester skirt. The next thing I knew, the world went upside down, and I fell with a slam to the floor.

My elbow and knee stung with pain as I tried to figure out what happened. Behind me was not only my twisted-up kilt but the fox mask. Staring at the crowd it was obvious that they had a full view of my face.
