THE CRYING BOY PAINTING

This is a true life story.

The painting of the Crying Boy is one of the most infamous haunted paintings in history.

… Especially since it has a scary chain of events as its back story.

Created by Italian artist Giovanni Bragolin in the 1950s, the painting has the figure of a young boy with sorrowful eyes and tears streaming down his face.

It became a very popular piece of artwork which was then mass-produced and sold in thousands of homes across Europe.

However, in the 1980s, all the homes that had the painting hung up on their walls were mysteriously burning down— yet the painting itself always survived without a single burn mark on it.

In 1985, The Sun, a British tabloid, published an article about a family whose home was destroyed by fire, thus making the story extremely popular.

The only item that remained untouched in the family's home was their Crying Boy painting.

Firefighters across the UK allegedly witnessed similar incidents, spreading and increasing the rumors that the painting was cursed.

Some claimed the boy in the painting had suffered a tragic fate—possibly dying in a fire himself— and as a result, his tormented soul was attached to the artwork.

Many homeowners destroyed or burned their paintings, hoping to break the curse, while others remained skeptically, arguing that the whole phenomenon was due to the painting's fire-resistant varnish.
