WOMAN IN THE ROAD

ORIGIN: United States and the United Kingdom.

The story revolves around a lone female figure, often described to be wearing a long white dress or a gown, standing on the side of a desolate road late at night.

She is commonly referred to as a "HITCHHIKING GHOST" or "PHANTOM HITCHHIKER."

Mang drivers have spoken of seeing the woman appearing distressed, sometimes waving for help.

Those who stop often find her very quiet and giving her a hand to help her get in, discover that she is cold to the touch.

As the journey goes on, she might begin a light conversation or simply sit still in silence.

However, when the vehicle gets near a bridge, an old house, or a cemetery she suddenly vanishes without a trace.

In some versions, the driver looks into the rearview mirror and sees her face transformed into a skull or a bloodied, decaying fleshy remains before she disappears entirely.

Locals often claim the woman is the ghost of someone who died tragically on that very stretch of road.

Some who have ignored her presence have reported car malfunctions or deadly accidents soon after.

They say you should never ignore the restless spirit, doing that would anger her.
