ORIGIN: Georgia, United States.
This is one of the most persistent tales associated with the infamous lake in Georgia, United States. Lake Lanier.
The lake was constructed in the 1950s and by flooding entire towns and cemeteries, it has long been full of tragedy, with an disturbingly large number of drownings and boat accidents.
Among the many ghostly stories tied to the lake, the tale of the Drowned Boy stands out as the most haunting.
Locals speak of a young boy, said to have drowned under mysterious circumstances decades ago.
His spirit is believed to remain beneath the murky waters, surfacing only on foggy nights.
Boaters and swimmers have reported hearing faint cries for help, only to see a small figure in the distance struggling in the water.
Once approached to be rescued, the boy either disappears beneath the surface or is revealed to have lifeless, pale eyes and bloated skin, resembling a corpse long lost to the belly of the lake.
Some say that those who see him are doomed to misfortune, with boats capsizing and swimmers suddenly feeling unseen hands pulling them under.
The boy is said to represent the many souls who met their end in the lake.
It is a reminder—- a ghostly one albeit—- that the water is never truly at rest.
