The urban legend of The Ghost Children of San Antonio is one of Texas's most chilling and well-known ghost stories.
It centers around a railroad crossing on the south side of San Antonio, near Villamain Road and Shane Road.
According to the legend, in the 1930s or 1940s, an accident took place at this very site;
A school bus full of children was said to have stalled on the tracks, but before the bus could be moved, an oncoming train collided with it, killing all the children and the bus driver.
In the years that followed, strange occurrences began to take place.
The most famous one is that if a car is stopped near the tracks, an unseen force will push the vehicle uphill and over the crossing to safety.
Many believe these are the spirits of the children, trying to prevent others from suffering their tragic fate.
Adding to the whole spooky nature of the story, some visitors sprinkle baby powder on their car bumpers and talk about finding small handprints after being pushed across.
While skeptics point to optical illusions causing the uphill "push,"
… Believers still insist that the ghost children are still watching over the tracks, protecting travelers from danger.
