ORIGIN: Austin, Texas
The Death Waltz of the Driskill Hotel is a legend tied to the historic Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas.
Very well known for its 'opulent' architecture and rich history, the hotel has been the site of ghost stories and strange occurrences since it opened in 1886.
However, one of its most haunting tales is the legend of the Death Waltz.
According to the story, a young bride-to-be checked into the hotel after her fiancé had broken off their engagement.
Feeling heartbroken and humiliated, she rented one of the lavish suites on the fourth floor.
Over the course of her stay, she spent the days pacing the room in her wedding dress, tightly holding the veil that was meant to mark the happiest day of her life.
One evening, guests and staff heard music drifting from her room— a very sorrowful waltz, heard through the hallways.
Hours later, she was found dead, having taken her own life.
Since then, visitors have heard the faint sound of classical music in the dead of night, paired with another dreadful sound…
… The soft, rhythmic swish of a dress gliding across the ballroom floor.
Some claim to have seen a ghost in a white wedding gown with her face covered by a veil, dancing alone sadly, so sadly it's difficult to watch.
