OLD HAG SYNDROME

ORIGIN: Canada

This urban legend is a terrifying experience rooted in folklore and sleep paralysis.

It is said to occur when a person wakes up in the middle of the night, unable to move or speak, but would be feeling a heavy, force or weight of something pressing down on their chest.

The figure responsible for this is described as an old, withered woman— commonly referred to as the "Old Hag."

Some victims say they saw her sitting at the edge of their bed, with her face twisted evily while her eyes practically glinted.

She is hunched over, with long, bony fingers that reach toward their throat.

It is then the victim is frozen in fear, feeling as suffocated under her weight, yet unable to scream for help or escape.

Sometimes, she whispers unintelligible unknown words, letting her cold breath touch their skin.

The legend is very common in Newfoundland, Canada, where locals have long believed the Old Hag is a supernatural entity that preys on those who are weak during sleep.

Although science attributes these encounters to sleep paralysis, the sheer terror felt by those who have experienced it makes the Old Hag a scary figure in paranormal lore;

Thus blurring the line between dream and reality.

Is it real or is it not?
