SILENT TWINS

ORIGIN: A Real Life Story.

The urban legend of The Silent Twin is based on the real-life tale of June and Jennifer Gibbons, twin sisters from Wales.

The twin sisters were born in 1963 to Caribbean immigrants, and grew up in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.

From an early age, they had unusual behaviors: refusing to speak to anyone except each other.

They developed their own secret language, that no one could understand except them.

The legend surrounding them says they were not shy but were possessed by a dark connection.

Some believe they communicated telepathically (through their minds) while others think their bond was supernatural, keeping them trapped in a shared mental prison.

Their silence literally made them outcasts from the community and it didn't help that their walking steps (they always walked side by side, together at all times) were matching and completely synchronized.

As teenagers, they turned to crime, committing theft and arson.

Then they were institutionalized in Broadmoor Hospital, where their bond became even more disturbing.

They believed that neither of them could live or survive without the other.

But in a strange turn of events, Jennifer suddenly died mysteriously in 1993, just shortly after their release.

She was 29, and her death remains unexplained, though June survived.

After her sister's death, June spoke to someone other than her sister, for the first time in her life.

She said that life with her sister was like a prison and although they wanted to, neither one of them could escape it…

… Until Jennifer died.
