ORIGIN: Scotland
This urban legend started in the 1970s.
Multiple eyewitnesses spoke of encountering a very strange figure walking in the streets of Glasgow, in South Lanarkshire.
This entity was a tall, thin man with an abnormally twisted face, contorted as though he was in extreme pain or frozen in a maniac grin.
His unnatural expressions earned him the nickname Gurning Man— since "gurning" means the act of making distorted facial expressions.
One of the most scary aspects of the legend is that the Gurning Man was always seen standing motionless, staring directly at people, especially women walking alone at night, then…
He would suddenly break into a wild run toward them, chasing them without stopping only for him to vanish just before he was about to touch his victims.
Others say they saw him their homes, peeping through the windows with his nightmarish face.
However, despite the numerous reports given and collected, no physical evidence of his existence has ever been found.
Some believe he was just a mad man while others suspect that he was probably a restless spirit or even a demonic entity.
To this day, the legend of the Gurning Man of Glasgow remains a mystery.
