Chapter 77 The gift of Nott family

Chapter 77

Soren left the Ravenclaw common room and returned to the long-lost Slytherin common room.

Just in time, his friends were all there, discussing the events of the past two weeks.

"Hey, everyone," Soren greeted casually as he sat down between Daphne and Meredith. "What's been going on lately?"

Draco laughed, "What else could happen? Since the Dingo incident, the little ghosts from Gryffindor have gone quiet, not daring to come out. I heard—Potter seems to have lost something remarkable, and it's hit him hard. I wonder if it's something his Muggle relatives left him..."

Soren naturally knew what he was referring to; that invisibility cloak was in his hands. He smiled without saying a word and turned to Blaise, "Blaise, how is your mother doing? Still planning to go after Hagrid relentlessly?"

At this, Blaise frowned, "Mom said to let it go... It's strange... Not like her at all..."

Draco interjected, "Exactly! Now the students know that Lupin is a werewolf! If we could use this chance to get that old man with the white beard kicked out of Hogwarts, that would be perfect!"

Soren shook his head, "Brother, you're thinking too simply. The board of governors is mostly filled with Dumbledore's people, and Fudge still needs to rely on Dumbledore for many things, so he won't agree. However—"

He sneered, "This is just the beginning. Because of Dumbledore hiring a werewolf, Fudge has faced public scrutiny and criticism, and his relationship with Dumbledore has already begun to crack. I dare say, give Fudge a few more years, and he'll be bold enough to turn against Dumbledore."

"Where have you been recently? You seem to have changed a lot," Pansy remarked, looking Soren up and down without caring about the conversation.

"Huh? What change? I'm still the same, just holed up in my dorm reading," Soren said dismissively.

"No, no, that's not it. You seem more confident and handsome," Audrey Lencown said, resting her chin on her hands and staring at Soren.

Daphne and Meredith both snorted at the same time, moving a little closer to Soren, almost as if they wanted to squeeze their bodies into his.

Soren chuckled awkwardly, "You're overthinking it. I've just been cooped up for two weeks, what could have changed?"

Suddenly, Soren realized that after gaining the legacy of Ravenclaw, his magical level might not have changed much on the surface, but his knowledge had far surpassed that of most wizards in the wizarding world. He had also mastered many unknown skills and secrets, which gave him newfound confidence.

Even Voldemort and Dumbledore probably had similar levels of knowledge; perhaps Soren was slightly lacking due to his age, but he was no longer at a distance where he could only look up!

Accompanying this change was his mindset. Yes, he no longer saw himself as an ordinary student but had taken a solid step toward the path of the strong. He had gained the awareness and confidence of a strong individual!

This confidence directly reflected in his demeanor, like a blade that was just beginning to reveal its sharpness!

At that moment, the usually silent Nott spoke up, "Soren, my dad said he wants to establish communication with you in alchemy and even consider a business partnership. What do you think?"

The Nott family and the Bock family are two of the major alchemical families in Britain, with a very deep foundation in alchemy. However, when Soren was attacked by Gemma Farley, the Nott family chose to side with the Lestrange family, making their relationship with the Malfoy family somewhat awkward.

Theodore Nott was born into a single-parent family; his mother passed away when he was very young, leaving him to rely on his elderly father. This shaped his quiet, low-key, and socially awkward personality. His father, Old Nott, was among Voldemort's first followers and was over ten years older than Lucius.

The Nott family and the Malfoy family have never had any grievances, and there has been quite a bit of business interaction between them. Previously siding with the Lestrange family was purely because Old Nott did not want to see the Malfoy family grow stronger.

Originally thought it was a good move, but less than a month later, various messages kept coming in—Soren became the youth representative of the Medieval European Wizards' Association, the Sir Merlin Order announced the award of a third-level medal, rumors even suggested that the Ministry of Magic was trying to recruit him to join Wizengamot, gaining the power to influence faculty hiring at Hogwarts, and even Lucius returned to the power structure of Hogwarts, inventing the well-known anti-nausea bracelet. His son mentioned that he also received Professor Bock's guidance and learned the technique of the Vanishing Cabinet...

Old Nott, after Voldemort's downfall, could escape safely like the Malfoy family, the Avery family, and the Carrow family, clearly was not a foolish person. Yes, he intended to change sides and switch allegiances.

The Lestranges were already in decline; although the Selwyn and Rowl families were not weak, they clearly couldn't match the current momentum of the Malfoys!

There was no need to hesitate in making a choice. What relieved him was that his son seemed to get along well with the Malfoy twins at school, which gave him a breakthrough.

Old Nott's attitude did not surprise Soren; in fact, Soren was well aware of Old Nott's intentions.

Soren said lightly, "Theo, considering our friendship, communication and cooperation are fine, but shouldn't you show some sincerity?" Soren did not mind accepting the Nott family as allies; after all, the Nott family's heritage was there, and their family's secret alchemy might be useful to Soren.

But if he thought that just one sentence could erase the past grievances, it certainly wouldn't be that easy.

Nott was well-prepared; he took out an ancient-looking black chisel and a white gourd with a high-quality color from his pocket.

"This is what my father asked me to pass on to you; he said it would surely satisfy you—this chisel is made from black dragon crystal, and it has been infused with Hebridean black dragon blood for thirty years through special means, a work that has poured much effort from my family. It is said that using this chisel to engrave ancient runes can yield twice the result with half the effort, and it would definitely enhance your alchemy."

"This white gourd was acquired by my grandfather from a traveling merchant from the Far East; it is actually a sealing device that can seal a magical creature inside. This is not just a simple space magic—"

"The white gourd is also engraved with a magic power conversion spell. The holder of the white gourd can use it to cast the abilities of the sealed magical creature. For example, if you seal a fire dragon inside, you can breathe dragon fire anytime from the gourd; if it's a Niffler, you can become invisible… It should be noted that once a magical creature is sealed, it cannot be released. To replace the sealed creature, you must first kill the original sealed creature with a spell before capturing a new one."

Wow! It indeed sounded like a good thing, and Soren felt very satisfied, so he naturally accepted it. Thus, under the envious gazes of everyone, Soren accepted the two gifts.

[Black Dragon Chisel obtained! White Gourd obtained!]

["Ally" Nott family obtained!]

Daphne, Meredith, and Pansy were fine; the three girls were already close to the Malfoy twins. The remaining Slytherins, such as Millicent Bulstrode, Tracy Davis, and Audrey Lenkorn, couldn't help but show thoughtful expressions towards Nott's actions.

Millicent came from a Sacred 28 pure-blood family, but her family's power was at the bottom tier among them. Plus, Millicent's appearance and figure—well, how to put it? Only suitable for a professional tank driver—so she had very little contact with the appearance-focused Soren over the past three semesters.

Tracy came from a mixed-blood family and had always been Pansy's sidekick in Slytherin, her presence was rather low. Her looks were decent, but no matter how hard she tried over the past three semesters, she couldn't break through the tight defense Daphne and Meredith had around Soren.

Audrey's Lenkorn family was no small family; although its historical background was not enough to be listed among the Sacred 28 pure-blood families, the current head of the family, Audrey's father—Albert Lenkorn—was a powerful figure in the Ministry of Magic.

In the original work, after the Ministry of Magic fell under Voldemort's control, he was one of the fastest rising figures taking advantage of the situation. When Harry impersonated him using Polyjuice Potion, all of the Ministry's colleagues were very afraid of him, and even Death Eaters like Corman Yaxley and puppet Minister Pius Thicknesse maintained a respectful tone towards him, which is quite rare among non-Death Eaters, indicating the extent of his power.

Of course, Soren did not know or care what they were thinking; he just wanted to go back to his dormitory and get some sleep.

Back in the dormitory, Soren had a good sleep; he hadn't closed his eyes in two weeks...

The next day, there were only two days left until summer vacation.

Soren started packing his luggage; he definitely needed to take Ravenclaw's collection of books with him, and he planned to finish the remaining unread parts during the summer. Additionally, he also needed to organize the dark magic books he had obtained from the Black family's secret chamber.

While flipping through these dark magic books, Soren was pleasantly surprised to find "Secrets of Cutting-Edge Dark Magic" written by Egbert the Egregious!

This book can be said to mark the beginning of Voldemort's creation of Horcruxes; it is said that there are only three copies of this book in the world, and it has been placed under a prohibition that prevents it from being copied or transcribed. One copy was originally kept in the restricted section of the Hogwarts library, but later, due to Voldemort's incident, it was hidden by Dumbledore in the headmaster's office. It was unexpected that the Black family had a copy as well.

Soren couldn't help but think that perhaps Sirius's brother, Regulus Black, relied on this book to deduce Voldemort's greatest secret.

["Secrets of Cutting-Edge Dark Magic" obtained!]

This book records many extremely evil forbidden dark magic spells, and Horcruxes are just one of them, possibly not even the most evil.

The first dark magic introduced is Horcruxes.

At the top of the page is a grotesque and twisted portrait of a person whose soul is being separated; he seems to be in great pain, yet there is a cruel smile on his lips. The book describes the principle and method of making Horcruxes in great detail, including several experimental records under different environments and subjects, and it meticulously notes the details to be observed in each step.

The first step in making a Horcrux is to split the soul, relying on murder to achieve this. Then, through a series of very complex steps, the split soul is separated from the main soul.

According to the annotations at the bottom of the page, Soren learned that not every murder results in a soul being split.

Splitting the soul requires very powerful forces, and this power comes from a person's malicious and evil thoughts. Therefore, it can be said that the key to success lies not in the act of killing itself, but in whether the process and means are sufficiently cruel and evil.

This is also why, although both use the Killing Curse, Voldemort was able to create so many Horcruxes, while Snape did not produce a split soul when he killed Dumbledore.

This is because Dumbledore's lifespan was already very short, and Snape's act of killing Dumbledore could hardly be considered murder; he harbored no malicious thoughts of killing, but rather seemed to be helping the latter find relief.

From this perspective, the so-called Killing Curse requires murderous intent to drive it, which is actually just a secondary setting created by many fan authors in the past.
