A mere seven days before our betrothal, Robert Lockman informed me that our engagement ceremony would be delayed by a month, rather than occurring as planned.

He elucidated, "Diana has her debut solo performance scheduled for that day. It's a monumental occasion in her career, and I can't bear to miss it. After all, we're getting engaged regardless. The exact timing isn't crucial."

This marked the third instance he had rescheduled our engagement due to Diana.

Initially, he postponed when Diana, who was overseas, became unwell and expressed fear and longing for him.

The second time, when Diana decided on an impromptu journey, Robert grew anxious and pursued her.

And now, this third occurrence.

I ended the call and turned to my lifelong friend and the Royal City's prince, Anthony Norton. I inquired, "Would you be interested in a fiancée?"

On what should have been our engagement day, Robert was tenderly embracing Diana at her concert's afterparty when he witnessed Anthony's engagement to me being broadcast citywide. As he watched, his eyes grew crimson.

Anthony gazed at me and questioned, "Are you certain about this? Can you truly move on from Robert?"

I gestured helplessly. "I provided him with ample opportunities. This is the third time he's called off our engagement for the same woman. Perhaps it's fate's way of indicating we weren't destined to be together. Even the warmest feelings can't melt a heart of ice, can they?"

Anthony grinned. "If you're resolved, I'd like to host an extravagant engagement ceremony. The Norton Family has an extensive guest list, and I want everyone to be aware of whom I'm marrying."

I studied Anthony, attempting to decipher his intentions. What I observed was unwavering resolve. Mustering unexpected courage, I replied, "Very well."

I returned home and began gathering my belongings. When Robert arrived and noticed my luggage, he scoffed, "Running away again? Trudy Peyton, aren't you weary of fleeing every time we disagree? You've done this throughout our four-year relationship."

"It's merely a postponement! Why are you overreacting? Delaying the ceremony by a week doesn't equate to me refusing to marry you!" His voice was laced with irritation. He seemed ready to storm out.

I responded calmly, "I'm not running away. I'm just organizing my things." Inwardly, I vowed this time I would leave him permanently.

Robert loosened his tie and casually instructed, "Oh? Well, since you're tidying up, why not prepare the guest room too? Diana mentioned this place is nearer to her concert venue, so she'll be staying here for a while."

I moved my packed suitcase to the side and replied without looking up, "Alright. I'll have Julie clean the guest room tomorrow."

My easy acquiescence surprised Robert. His tone softened as he continued, "Okay, I know I've upset you. So, tomorrow, why don't you visit the jewelry store and select a set? It's my gift to you. I've been occupied lately, you know, with Diana's return and all. Her house has been vacant for ages, so I've been helping her clean and decorate it."

He added, "For now, just focus on our engagement preparations. Once Diana's concert is over, I'll make it up to you. Is that acceptable?"

Feeling a weight on my chest, I told him, "There's no need to accompany me. I have plenty to keep me occupied. I'm just sorting through some old items and doing some cleaning."

Robert didn't inquire about my sudden desire to declutter a house I had just moved into. Instead, he looked at me with relief. "Last time she was here, Diana mentioned she disliked you using the sunroom as a studio. She wanted to practice her piano there. So you're finally ready to clear out your stuff from there?"

Taking a deep breath, I replied, "Yes, I've considered it. The sunroom will be hers starting tomorrow." Silently, I added, as will you.

The following day, Diana returned to the city. I hadn't even risen from bed when photos of her and Robert embracing at the airport went viral online. This breaking news propelled them to the top of the trending charts.
