Her School Life

‘I heard she’s cursed.’

‘but she’s an alpha daughter…why did the oracle say her birth is cursed?’

‘Who knows….her mother became sick after birthing her.’

‘Perhaps the bond between the Alpha and her mother wasn’t meant to be.’

‘Right, her mother is a human.’

‘The Moon goddess might not have approved of their bond.’

‘What does the Alpha think?’

In the midst of the murmurs, a tiny figure stood among, her head lowered to the ground, enduring the harsh words directed to her from all direction. Her fisted hands trembled as her teeth gnashed together.

‘’You all don’t understand anything!’’ The tiny figure rose her tearful gaze with a yell. She then dashed away from the gossipy murmurs. Her tiny feet scurrying away from those words, a lone tear slipping away from her eyes.

No one had ever understood her situation.

All of a sudden, a person in white clothing laying on the ground appeared right in her path. The person had their hands clasped together above their belly. The glossy hair and structure of face from the side profile seemed very familiar to tiny figure. After all, her own facial features were somewhat the same.

‘’…M-Mother…’’ Gasping at the sight, the welling tears around her eyelids started to drip at the sight of the unexpected person.

‘’Mother!’’ The tiny figure called out, trying to close the distance between herself and person she referred to as Mother. But…for some reason, she couldn’t as the distance between them just kept on widening, not seeming to narrow anytime soon. It was as if the tiny figure was running on a spot.

As the tiny figure tried to narrow the distance, the person whom she referred to as Mother, slowly turned her head to side, her grey eyes landing on the tiny figure. Her lips separated from each other, parting to utter her words.

‘’Clov—‘’

‘’Huuukkk!’’ Snapping her eyes wide open, Clover sucked in a sharp intake of breath. Her upper body bent over in a hurry. Her trembling hand found its way to her pounding heart hidden beneath her chest.

‘’A-A Dre-eam-m….’’ She whispered to herself.

‘’You are finally awake.’’ A voice, seeming annoyed, came from the side.

‘Huh?’ A little lost, clover tilted her head to the side, the sight of a stranger coming in view.

‘’Are you stopping here? You better hurry out. The train is about to leave.’’ The stranger pointed out with a frown. ‘’I wonder why you youngsters sleep on the train when you know that you will eventually get down. It’s not as if this your room where you forget what yourself.’’ He nagged with complaints.

‘’….Huh?’’ Still looking lost, clover gaze wandered to the other people behind the frowning stranger. Their displeasure was evident for her to see, written all over their faces.

‘Train?’ Clover blanked out at first, before her eyes widened in realization.

‘’I’m so sorry!’’ Squealing on top of her voice, clover apologized, anxiously. She hugged the bag on her lap and hurried out of the train.

‘’The girl didn’t even say thank you.’’

‘’Youngsters these days…’

At the same time, her ears caught the irritated voices of the strangers before the doors of the train slid to a close.

‘’I made it.’’ Clover leaned over and released her breath, panting heavily with a hand over her knees and the other around her bag. After a moment of calming down, she stood upright and hoisted the straps of her bag over shoulders. She then took out her phone from the pocket of her jeans, and tapped the button on the side.

‘’8: 00….’’ She looked down at the time on the lighted screen. A tried yet relieved sigh escaped her lips. ‘’I made it on time.’’

Classes in her high school always began at 8:30 am. Clover always tried to make it before then. The latest she had arrived to school was 9:00 am. The reason was due to her family, specifically her step-mother.

*grrrrrrr*

‘’…..’’

‘’Perhaps I should buy a meal on the way.’’ Clover took note of her grumbling stomach, and returned her phone back to her pocket.

The bell above the door rang, signaling the arrival of a customer in the local restaurant. Clover’s eyes briefly scanned the few humans in the restaurant before making her to the side where she would place an order.

‘’Good morning and Welcome to Layla’s!’’ The waitress greeted with a welcoming smile.

‘’Good morning.’’ Clover returned her greetings first, then placed her order. ‘’Can I get a chicken sandwich with a cup of coffee please.’’

‘’Sure thing! Are you eating here or….’’

‘’I’m in a hurry.’’ Clover replied, watching the waitress nod to her words and typing in her order on the keyboard.

‘’Please give me a minute.’’

‘’Hmm…’’ Clover hummed in response. Her gaze lowered to floor, wondering whether placing an order for food was a mistake or not. Her financial situation wasn’t exactly the best.

It would have been beneficial for her to eat home-cooked meal, but to cook a well-balanced meal was a bit of a problem. Compared to the meal she always prepared for her family, her own meal was more like scraps, leftovers from the eaten meal of her family.

The reason for that was her step-mother…..as always.

‘I have about less than a thousand dollars left in my account. Dad won’t send me money until the next month. I also have buy some text books for my classes and they are quiet costly. If I don’t get a scholarship, I would have to pay for my tuition…..’ As clover went over the thoughts in her head, the waitress came with a plastic bag containing her packaged sandwich and coffee.

‘’Here you go!’’

‘’Thank you.’’ Clover returned her cheerful smile. After making payment for her order, she turned to side with a small pleased smile on her lips.

‘No…don’t be greedy clover. Be grateful that Dad still took you in regardless of your cursed birth…...’ Clover berated herself in her thoughts as she went out of the restaurant.

‘If worse comes to worst, I will just have to beg Dad and the Luna. Surely, they would answer my request since I have been allowed to school here and not the clan.’

As a werewolf, mingling around the humans wasn’t the best since an exposure could happen one day if one wasn’t very careful. This doesn’t only apply to entire werewolf race but the other creatures as well.

Sorcerers and Lycanthropes. The other creatures besides the werewolves.

Because of her cursed fate from birth, many had always avoided her like a disease. Her step-mother was also the same.

Her step-mother didn’t want to her to mingle with her half-sister in any way and proposed to her father that she should attend her education in the mortal world.

From elementary school to middle school and now high school.

Her college would probably the same.

‘Yeah….they will likely pay for my school fees since I can’t come up with that amount. The Luna also won’t have a choice but to agree.’ Clover concluded in her mind, taking a bite of her unwrapped sandwich on her way to her high school.

_____

‘’Hey Pete! Guess what!’’

‘’Dude! You have to check out this celebrity, she’s hot!’’

‘’Dahlia, have you seen this trendy style?’’

‘’Hey, did do your assignment? I did not have time to do mine.’’

‘I think I forgot my lab coat and Mr. Scott is very strict with lab rules.’’

‘’Hey Jason do we have practice with coach?’’

Students of different homes and backgrounds mingled among themselves in the long hallway. Most had their cliques and friends whom they only associate with, either for the benefits or for a genuine friendship.

There are also few that have no one, but themselves. It’s either the students did not want to approach them for a reason or they don’t want to reach out to any of the students for their own reason. Among the students, they are known as the loners.

A person like that was Clover, and she was a loner in high school. Among her peers who knew her name but hardly her face, she was nicknamed the nerdy loner.
