"Kadabra, bend the spoon, then follow up with Psybeam!"
"Take your time; there's no need to rush. Just focus on getting used to the flow of battle," Tyson encouraged.
With plenty of battle experience, Tyson had full confidence in Charmeleon and Eevee handling their respective opponents. Kadabra, however, was new to combat, and Tyson wanted to make sure the newly evolved Pokémon gained confidence and familiarity with its abilities.
To Tyson's surprise, Kadabra displayed remarkable proficiency with its moves—skills it had just learned after evolving.
Using its psychic powers, Kadabra bent the spoon in its hand, drawing Geodude's attention. Then, seizing the opportunity, it unleashed a dazzling Psybeam.
The colorful beam struck Geodude head-on, though it failed to induce confusion.
"Great start, Kadabra! Now use Telekinesis to lift Geodude into the air. As it falls, aim another Psybeam to finish it off!"
Though impressed by Kadabra's seamless execution, Tyson stayed focused on the battle. The praise could wait until the fight was won.
Responding swiftly, Kadabra's psychic energy enveloped Geodude, suspending it mid-air. Geodude flailed helplessly before Kadabra hurled it skyward. As the Rock-type began its descent, Kadabra unleashed a second Psybeam, landing a critical hit and sending Geodude crashing to the ground. The defeated Pokémon fainted on impact.
Meanwhile, Charmeleon and Eevee made quick work of the remaining Geodude with Dragon Breath and Swift.
"Well done, Kadabra! You're adapting to your Psychic moves impressively fast," Tyson praised, patting Kadabra on the shoulder.
He knew some Pokémon had exceptional aptitudes that set them apart. Kadabra's mastery of its newly learned moves suggested an innate talent for honing Psychic abilities.
Kadabra tilted its head in slight confusion but nodded, trusting Tyson's assessment.
"All right, let's keep going. The more battles you experience, the faster you'll grow stronger," Tyson said.
After a brief rest, Tyson focused on finding another wild Pokémon to train Kadabra. Targeting Pokémon with Beginner-level strength allowed Kadabra to gain experience without overwhelming pressure.
It wasn't just Kadabra's moves that were remarkable; its intelligence had noticeably increased after evolution. Kadabra even mastered telepathy, allowing it to communicate directly with Tyson and its teammates.
This newfound connection significantly improved Tyson's ability to issue commands during battle, making their strategy quicker and harder for opponents to anticipate. Combined with Teleport and Role Play, Kadabra was already proving how formidable Psychic-types could be.
Imagining Kadabra's potential when it evolved into Alakazam, Tyson knew it could become the cornerstone of his team. Its psychic prowess would not only strengthen himself but also enhance the performance of Charmeleon, Eevee, and any future teammates.
Deciding to nurture this potential, Tyson kept Kadabra outside its Poké Ball, encouraging it to observe Charmeleon and Eevee's battles. By studying their tactics, Kadabra would gain insights into teamwork and synergy.
He even considered assigning Kadabra a leadership role alongside him, making it an extension of his strategy during intense battles.
While Tyson worked on strengthening his Pokémon, a more sinister plot was unfolding deep within Mt. Moon.
A group of shadowy figures had evaded the watchful eyes of the forest rangers and infiltrated the mountain's inner caves.
Unlike the areas near the surface, where Beginner and Competent-level Pokémon resided, the deeper caves housed stronger Pokémon, including Advanced and Elite-level ones. These caverns also contained rare Moon Stones, essential evolutionary items.
Moon Stones, like all evolutionary stones, came in varying qualities: Basic, Standard, Advanced, and Perfect. The higher the quality, the more profound the effects on the Pokémon's evolution.
Most trainers could only afford Basic Moon Stones, while the lucky or wealthy ones might secure Standard or Advanced versions. Perfect-quality stones, however, were almost mythical in rarity and value.
For trainers like Tyson, even Standard or Advanced stones were out of reach through official League resources. Yet, Mt. Moon was rumored to harbor a treasure trove of these coveted stones, making it a target for opportunists.
Deep within the caves, two intruders—Torre and Cass—were finalizing their plan.
"This is the spot," Torre said, pulling explosives from his backpack. "Time to give those watchdogs a real headache."
Cass nodded, helping to set the charges while their Pokémon—Persian and Scyther—stood guard.
With their preparations complete, the pair moved cautiously through the cavern, searching for suitable targets. Soon, they spotted a slumbering Graveler.
"Looks strong," Cass whispered, observing the Rock-type's sturdy build. "It should know Self-Destruct."
"Perfect," Torre replied with a smirk. "Persian, use Swift!"
The shimmering stars rained down on Graveler, jolting it awake.
With an angry roar, the Graveler began chasing them through the tunnels. As they lured the enraged Pokémon further, more Gravelers joined the pursuit.
When the pair reached the narrow passage, they had rigged with explosives, Torre turned to Cass. "Now!"
Both trainers sprinted through the opening as Persian and Scyther shielded them from the impending blast.
"Boom!"
The deafening explosion echoed through the cave, causing a massive rockfall that sealed the passage behind them.
Chaos erupted as startled wild Pokémon began stirring deeper within Mt. Moon.
For the rangers stationed nearby, the nightmare was just beginning.
