"Alright, go ahead and play."
Watching Eevee quickly bond with the Mankey thanks to its natural charm and social skills, Tyson nudged the Mankey forward to help it get more comfortable with Charmeleon and the others.
Taking advantage of this break, Tyson opened his Pokédex to check Mankey's stats:
Pokémon: Mankey
Gender: Male
Ability: Defiant
Level: Beginner
Basic Moves: Scratch, Leer, Focus Energy, Covet, Fury Swipes, Low Kick
TM Moves: None
Egg Moves: Curse, Smelling Salts
Mankey evolves into Primeape, but that's not its final form!
When it becomes a Primeape, it can learn the special move Rage Fist naturally. In the games, using Rage Fist 20 times allows Primeape to evolve into Annihilape.
However, reality isn't a game. Tyson hadn't yet encountered an Annihilape in this world, which likely meant the evolution process required not just using Rage Fist 20 times but mastering the move to a high level of proficiency.
This presented a challenge. Ghost-type moves like Rage Fist were rare for Fighting-types, and leveling such a skill to its peak would demand immense effort. Tyson guessed that achieving this might require Mankey to reach an advanced level of power.
Despite this, Tyson felt confident. With his accrued mission points, he could steadily boost Mankey's proficiency in Rage Fist. All he needed was to save up enough points to eventually help create the world's first recorded Annihilape.
Mankey's inherited Curse made this goal even more feasible, as the unusual Ghost-type Egg Move could accelerate its mastery of Rage Fist down the line.
While Mankey played alongside the others, Tyson organized the resources he had recently acquired.
The most valuable were the TMs:
For Charmeleon: Flame Charge, Fire Punch, and Sunny Day.
For Eevee: Charm, Fake Tears, and Shadow Ball.
For Kadabra: Calm Mind, Light Screen, Double Team, Safeguard, and Psychic.
The one Tyson was most pleased with was Flame Charge, which not only increased Charmeleon's speed stat but also sped up its move execution, giving it a competitive edge in battle.
For Eevee, Charm and Fake Tears provided solid utility for team support, while Shadow Ball added an offensive edge.
As for Kadabra, Calm Mind was a perfect fit for boosting its special stats, while the defensive moves improved its staying power.
Since the Mankey was still new to the team, Tyson decided to remain in Riverstone Town for a while to allow it to acclimate and let Charmeleon master the new TMs.
This set Tyson into a steady routine of training and learning each day. Of course, he didn't neglect Eevee or Mankey, especially the latter, whose Defiant ability also influenced its personality.
For instance, during training, Mankey would often look at Tyson longingly, silently pleading to be included in the drills.
Tyson would gently reassure it, assigning simple tasks instead. Mankey was still at Beginner level, and Tyson understood that overexerting it at this stage could hinder its long-term potential.
While Tyson was busy maximizing his time in Riverstone Town, Officer Jenny was feeling increasingly frustrated.
Since her assignment to this quiet town, Jenny had been desperate to prove herself. However, Riverstone Town's exceptional security and remote location meant there were no criminal activities, no rare Pokémon to attract poachers, and no major incidents.
The lack of action was ideal for a peaceful retirement but torturous for someone like Jenny, who was eager to build a reputation.
Now that a wanted criminal was rumored to be passing through, Jenny was determined to seize the chance and prove her worth. She was ready to apprehend the suspect and show her superiors that assigning her to Riverstone Town was a mistake.
What Jenny didn't realize was that her placement here was deliberate. Her overzealous approach to policing often led to overlooked details or destroyed evidence. Her superiors hoped the slower pace of Riverstone Town would help temper her impulsiveness.
So far, it wasn't working.
After another fruitless patrol, Jenny returned to the station disappointed.
Despite her diligent efforts, she hadn't found a single clue suggesting the wanted criminal had passed through.
Unfortunately, Jenny hadn't thought to cross-reference the guest logs of local hotels and Pokémon Centers. A detailed investigation of visitors might have yielded results, but she was so focused on capturing the criminal herself that she ignored this possibility.
Meanwhile, a pair of shadowy eyes watched Jenny as she entered the station.
"So, this Town really is as peaceful as they say... Even the police station only has a skeleton crew. What a golden opportunity!"
From the shadows, a figure gazed towards the Pokémon Center, and a sinister plan began to form in his mind.
The following morning, Jenny was back on patrol, brimming with energy once more.
Inside the station, her colleagues exchanged knowing glances. They didn't expect her patrol to yield anything significant but admired her spirit nonetheless.
Deciding to support her, they split up to check the guest logs at various accommodations in Town. If they could find anything suspicious, it would at least bring Jenny some joy.
Back at the Pokémon Center, Tyson emerged from his room just in time to see Matsuno heading out. With a polite nod, Tyson made his way toward the training room, while Matsuno quietly exited the building.
