"Mankey, use Scratch!"
Upon hearing the command, the Mankey sprang into action.
With a flurry of precise movements, it scratched and struck, leaving several marks on the opposing Bulbasaur before finishing the battle with a well-placed Low Kick.
As the battle ended, Mankey was noticeably calmer compared to its first fight, but the smile of triumph on its face was unmistakable.
"Great job, Mankey! That was amazing," Tyson praised warmly as he knelt down, stroking Mankey's head gently.
Overcome with excitement, Mankey jumped into Tyson's arms, eagerly sharing its joy. Tyson had grown accustomed to Mankey's playful and spirited nature over the past few days, so he wasn't surprised.
After exchanging a quick farewell with the opposing trainer, Tyson left the battlefield with Mankey by his side.
"Alright, Mankey. Take a short break for now. Next, we'll head to Cerulean Cave to find new opponents for you to face," Tyson said.
"There, you'll encounter wild Pokémon, which will give you some unique experiences."
At the mention of Cerulean Cave, Mankey's excitement reignited.
Earlier that morning, Tyson had already checked out of the Pokémon Center. Visiting the battle arena was just a warm-up to let Mankey enjoy another fight before heading into the cave.
With his preparations complete, Tyson made his way toward Cerulean Cave. Along the path, he noticed numerous trainers coming and going—some returning from training in the cave and others venturing in for their own challenges.
As he neared the cave entrance, Tyson observed several rangers stationed nearby. The scene reminded him of his previous adventures on Mt. Moon.
"I wonder if we'll run into trouble with Pokémon hunters again. It'd be great if I could trigger another hunter mission," Tyson mused with a hint of anticipation.
Inside the cave, the atmosphere was unexpectedly enchanting. A soft blue light illuminated the expansive tunnels, giving the surroundings a dreamlike quality.
The first level of the cave was populated with familiar Pokémon, such as Zubat, Golbat, and Geodude. However, Cerulean Cave also featured unique residents like Psyduck, Rhyhorn, Lickitung, and Ditto.
One of Tyson's goals for this exploration was to catch a Ditto—not as a battle-focused Pokémon but as a potential utility teammate. By enhancing its transformation abilities, Tyson thought Ditto could be useful for certain disguises or unexpected situations.
Deeper into the cave, water-type Pokémon such as Poliwag and Goldeen became more prominent.
To avoid getting lost in the labyrinthine tunnels, Tyson relied on Kadabra's psychic abilities.
"Kadabra, use your powers to locate the least crowded path," Tyson instructed.
With a quick scan of the cave, Kadabra pinpointed an optimal route and led the group forward.
Unbeknownst to Tyson, the sight of Kadabra had caught the attention of several trainers nearby, their eyes gleaming with curiosity and greed.
"Let's get to work, Mankey. There's a Geodude hidden on that rock to the left. Use Low Kick to knock it down!" Tyson called out.
Mankey, always eager for a challenge, dashed forward with precision. Using Low Kick, it caught the Geodude off guard, sending it tumbling off its perch.
"Great! Now use Leer and follow up with Scratch!" Tyson continued.
Against the high-defense Geodude, Mankey's fighting-type nature posed a disadvantage. However, with Leer lowering its opponent's defense, Mankey quickly turned the tide.
Following up with rapid Scratches, Mankey managed to leave visible damage on the Geodude.
"Finish it with a Low Kick!" Tyson commanded.
The heavier the opponent, the stronger the impact of Low Kick. Combined with Mankey's relentless effort, the move proved decisive, leaving Geodude unable to continue.
Mankey's victorious cry filled the cave, and its excitement for future battles only grew.
After that, Tyson encouraged Mankey to continue battling, letting it face several wild Pokémon throughout the morning. Despite its energy and enthusiasm, even Mankey had its limits, eventually needing a well-earned rest.
In the afternoon, it was Eevee's turn. Tyson explained, "Eevee, now that you've advanced to a higher level, it's time to refine your strength."
Eevee, initially excited about its recent breakthrough, appeared less thrilled at the prospect of constant battling. Still, it channeled its frustration into each fight, swiftly overwhelming wild Pokémon with precise Quick Attacks and pinpoint Swift moves.
After a long trek, Tyson finally reached a water-filled area within the cave. He decided it was time to test the team's coordination.
"Perfect," Tyson said with a grin. "Mankey, Eevee, take a break and recover your energy for now."
"Kadabra, get ready. Once Mankey and Eevee are back to full strength, use your psychic powers to draw out the water Pokémon. Then, we'll practice teamwork."
Kadabra nodded, settling into meditation to prepare for the upcoming task.
Mankey eagerly munched on energy cubes, trying to recover as quickly as possible. Eevee, initially hesitant, couldn't resist its favorite flavor and ended up joining Mankey.
Soon enough, both Pokémon were ready for their next challenge.
