Léon's eyes locked onto the door, his face set in a determined expression. "We need to get out of here, now," he whispered.
Sophie nodded, her eyes wide with fear. "The back door," she whispered. "It's our only chance."
Aurélie's heart was racing as she followed Sophie and Léon to the back door. They could hear the footsteps getting louder, the sound of voices whispering outside the room.
As they reached the door, Léon turned to Aurélie and Sophie. "Ready?" he whispered.
Sophie nodded, her eyes locked on Léon's. Aurélie took a deep breath, her heart pounding in her chest.
Léon pushed open the door, and they slipped out into the night. They found themselves in a narrow alleyway, the walls towering above them.
As they ran, Aurélie could hear the men behind them, their footsteps echoing off the walls. She didn't dare look back, fearing what she might see.
They turned a corner, and Aurélie saw a glimmer of light up ahead. It was a small car, parked by the side of the road.
Léon yanked open the door, and they piled inside. Sophie started the engine, and they sped away from the curb.
As they drove, Aurélie looked back, seeing the men standing in the alleyway, their faces twisted with anger.
They had escaped, for now. But Aurélie knew that the syndicate would not give up easily. They would be back, and next time, they would not be so easy to shake.
