"Resurrecting the dead?"

Viktor frowned. Reversing life and death was a challenge to the laws of nature—something fundamentally impossible. But when he noticed Singed's expression, he fell silent, his doubts drowned out by the weight of the moment.

Singed's facial muscles twitched unnaturally, his eyelids fluttering as he instinctively took a step toward Link.

"Do you... have a plan?"

"First, let's see her, Doctor."

Link glanced toward the blast-proof chamber at the far end of the warehouse, a new addition Singed had installed during his absence.

"Very well, follow me."

Singed pulled out a pocket watch and led the way. Link gestured for Pride to stay behind, and the mechanical being bowed its head in obedience. Viktor and Link followed Singed to the blast-proof chamber.

"Viktor, when you were young, you didn't understand why I treated Rio the way I did. As you grew older and faced your own physical limitations, you began to comprehend my actions. But even now, you don't fully grasp the true reason behind them."

Singed opened the heavy door to the chamber and stepped inside. Viktor and Link followed.

"There's only one reason a person would willingly become a monster, scorned and reviled by all—" Singed sat down in a chair beside a cradle, his one remaining eye filled with a mountain of tenderness and love. "And that reason is love."

Viktor stepped over the maze of cables on the floor, taking in the chamber's interior, which had been arranged like a young girl's bedroom. His gaze fell on the figure in the cradle.

"She is..."

"My daughter, Orianna." Singed reached out to touch the cradle's surface, as if caressing his daughter's face. "An accident left her afflicted with the condition known as death."

"So, your plan to resurrect the dead is for her sake..." Viktor turned to Link, who had been standing by the door with his arms crossed.

Only when Viktor looked at him did Link step forward, nodding. "That's right. I once promised the Doctor that I would help him save Orianna. And now, I believe the time has come to begin this experiment."

"Resurrecting the dead means defying the natural order, challenging the laws of the universe. Can we truly accomplish such a thing?"

Viktor gazed at the girl in the cradle, his expression devoid of emotion, save for a hint of transcendent pity.

"Under normal circumstances, no," Link said, standing beside Viktor and Singed as they looked down at Orianna. "But science is about transcending the ordinary, turning the impossible into the possible."

"You brought me here because you already have an idea, don't you?"

Viktor's tone was firm, and Link nodded. "Correct."

"Conventional methods won't allow us to break the balance of life and death—it's an ironclad rule of the world. But if we think outside the box, we open up new possibilities."

"Such as?"

"A transformation of life forms." Link turned to Viktor. "Think of how insects develop through four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Why must we insist on working within the confines of the original form? Why not treat her—" He gestured to Orianna in the cradle, "—as a new form of life, one we can transform and develop?"

"This..." Viktor fell silent. He sensed no life in Orianna, yet her body, maintained by Singed over the years, still radiated vitality.

To put it kindly, she was a child who could never be born.

To put it bluntly, she was a living piece of flesh.

As Viktor hesitated, Singed looked up at Link. "I never imagined your thinking would reach this point."

"Doctor, you've been blinded by the veil of convention. Beyond it lies a whole new world."

"But it's also a lawless, unrestrained frontier," Viktor interjected.

"You're not wrong," Link said with a shrug. "That's why, when we step beyond convention and explore new realms, we must adhere to one principle above all else." He raised a finger, his tone grave. "Self-discipline."

"Only with a strong will and self-restraint can we avoid crossing forbidden boundaries." Link's eyes never left Viktor as he spoke.

Viktor leaned on his staff and sighed. Even now, Link couldn't resist reminding and warning him.

"If it means hearing her call me 'father' again, I'll pay any price," Singed said.

Link turned to Viktor, who spoke softly. "Challenging the rules, defying the laws—this is a new field of study for me. I have no reason not to join. As for your conditions, I'll abide by them. But—" He paused, then added, "What about you?"

"I'll set the rules," Link replied calmly.

"Enough," Singed coughed, bringing Viktor and Link back to the task at hand.

"Continue with your plan, Link," Viktor said. After a moment, he added, "I'll follow the rules."

"By treating Orianna as a new life form, like a pupa, we can help her undergo a metamorphosis."

Link gazed at Orianna in the cradle. "Think of it as helping her emerge from her cocoon."

"But don't forget, insect metamorphosis involves distinct stages, each fundamentally different from the last. Each stage builds the foundation for the next, accumulating the energy needed for transformation."

"So, we need to provide Orianna with the 'nutrients' she needs to transform her life form, effectively resurrecting her. At the same time, we must ensure the preservation of her personality and consciousness."

"This is a monumental and arduous task, which is why I've invited Viktor to join us."

"Because I've already transitioned into a new form of life," Viktor said calmly.

"Exactly," Link snapped his fingers. "If we can replicate your evolution, we can bring Orianna back. And once we've mastered this transformation, we can combine it with our scientific knowledge to achieve a new kind of evolution."

"Any questions?" Link looked at the two men. Viktor and Singed shook their heads.

A smile spread across Link's face as he clapped his hands together.

"Then, as of today, the Resurrection Project is officially underway. Let's work hard to fulfill a father's wish and advance the frontiers of science!"
