The inner city of Meteor Street is much like any city outside its bounds.
It features areas where ordinary residents live and affluent neighborhoods with better environments.
In a mansion located in one of these wealthy areas, Sandy was reporting respectfully to a figure sitting across from him on a luxurious sofa.
"He didn't agree, just said he would consider it..."
The figure on the sofa was a man wearing a nightgown. Though his hair was gray, his face appeared to be about the same age as Sandy's.
Anyone familiar with Meteor Street would recognize him as John Wilson, one of the elders forming the Council of Elders.
"Sir, should I push him for a quicker response?" Sandy asked cautiously.
"No need," John replied with a smile. "If he wants to join us, he'll decide in due time. If not, pushing won't help."
"But if he refuses, should we apply some pressure?" Sandy suggested with a hint of cruelty.
The elders held emperor-like power in Meteor Street, and Sandy, as a subordinate, was no stranger to using force.
"Hehehe... Pressuring him would be pointless and only cause unnecessary trouble," John chuckled. "The intel suggests his targets were isolated individuals, indicating he wasn't acting recklessly but with purpose."
Since his actions didn't interfere with my interests, there's no reason to stir up trouble."
"You're being modest, sir. With your influence, dealing with him would be a trivial matter," Sandy flattered.
"True, but there's no need to exert myself if there's no offense. However, if he joins another elder's ranks, that would be a provocation," John said, taking a puff from his cigar.
"If that happens, I understand. I'll keep an eye on his movements," Sandy promised, realizing John's intentions.
John nodded, dismissing the matter.
Recruiting someone like Ethan was a minor concern for him, one he wouldn't have bothered with if not for Sandy's insistence and Ethan's notable strength.
During his hunts in Meteor Street, Ethan consciously avoided those connected to the elders.
He wasn't there to hunt a handful of targets; he had a larger mission.
Given the elders' control over Meteor Street, conflict would hinder his progress.
Yet, as Sandy's visit indicated, Ethan's activities had begun to draw attention from the elders.
And just as Ethan anticipated, Sandy was only the beginning.
In the following days, several other elders sent representatives to extend offers to him.
Like with Sandy, Ethan responded to these offers as temporary considerations.
Despite potential trouble from the elders' recruitment efforts, Ethan didn't halt his hunts.
After two or three days of continued operations, Ethan finally achieved his first major milestone.
"Ding dong~ Congratulations to the host for completing the [Sin Nemesis 1] achievement, the reward..."
Standing beside him were Lisa, who was sniping, and Mia, controlling the shadow soldiers from a distance.
As several C-class criminals patrolling their territory were dispatched by Lisa and Mia, Ethan, guarding the two women, heard the system notification in his mind.
"Alright, the mission's complete. Time to pull out!"
Ethan announced, holding off on checking the reward details to focus on their exit.
"It's done?!"
"Then let's get out of here!"
Lisa and Mia, hearing Ethan's prompt, quickly reset their positions: one reverting her arms, the other withdrawing her Nen, ceasing their attacks.
Following Ethan's lead, the trio swiftly evacuated the area, eventually reaching the edge of the garbage mountain.
"Mia!"
After stopping, Ethan glanced around and gestured to Mia for a scan.
Mia nodded, deploying a large number of scouts to thoroughly check the surroundings, ensuring no one was nearby.
"All clear, no one within 500 meters," she confirmed after a short while.
"What's the reward this time?" Lisa asked, relieved as she scanned the area and then looked at Ethan eagerly.
With no immediate threats, Ethan focused on examining the rewards.
As usual, the main achievements came with three rewards, and this time was no different.
[Hundred Times Practice Card]: Use it to enter a practice space where time flows a hundred times faster than the outside world. During this time, you are immune to negative physical effects like hunger and fatigue for 24 hours.
[Ming Shen Pill × 5]: A treasure pill for spiritual enlightenment, enhancing your spiritual energy effectively.
[Door Fruit]: A superhuman devil fruit from another world. Consuming it grants the ability to open doors on any object, allowing free passage (system improvements have perfected it, removing any flaws).
The first two rewards were familiar to Ethan, but the third one, the Door Fruit, caught him by surprise.
