Then, various calls from Trev Electronics began to rush in. Most were threats and some were merely conversation. Literally, it made the matter worse.
"We need to head out." Diane barged into my room and said. It was like I heard wrong. It was finally the end of a very tough week but then, I need to head out with her. No.
"Where?" I asked even though I knew my answer would be negative.
"My house." She replied.
"What? But your father is on lookout for you and I want to rest". I replied as I covered myself with the blankets.
"This is weekend, I am sure Kate is out with her friends and my father rarely goes home. Today is the perfect day for us to retrieve that document." She explained.
"Then, what if today happens to be one of the rare days your father come home? Let's go there next weekend. Alright?" I tried to persuade her but it was not to avail.
"We don't know what those people plan is. If their next move is to break into the house to retrieve the document, then it will be end for us. My mother died in an excruciating way. I can never let go of it. I can't wait not even a minute any longer. "She shouted, but the crucial part was no tears came out of her eyes. This dragged the attention of Lily. I am sure my mother heard but she decided to ignore.
"What happened?" Asked Lily as she entered my room.
"There is no need to bother. She was just shouting as normal. "I said. Diane put on a fake smile. Even though my sister knew that her mother died, she did not know how she died and how we are planning revenge.
"Are you sure? You scared me to death. I know Ewan might be annoying sometimes, but you don't need to shout." She replied in a cool warning tone as she left.
"You see, she asked me not to shout. To avoid me shouting, let us get going now. "I had no other choice than to follow her. Like she said, there was no one at home. Fortunately, she had an extra key, which I believed her father should have collected it from her. Nevertheless, it did help us that day. But the confusing part was Kate did not seem bothered about her step mother's death. The only person who said her mother died was Diane and what I believed was her words. There was no clear proof that her mother did died. Even though I entered the crime scene and saw blood, it did look like a stage. What I wanted was proof that her mother died. It was not that I did not believe her but sometimes, I knew humans could be pretty cunning. We entered her mother's room and fortunately, the document was still there but the notes were gone. Probably Kate went curious and took it. I took the document, opened it and read it. The content was unbelievable. I and Diane looked at each other in surprise. It did not make perfect sense that such a reputable company like Trev Electronics had such flaws. Indeed, the content was enough to bring down the whole company.
"Wow. I can't believe this. But how did mother get this?" Diane asked. It was like a rhetorical question. No one could answer at that moment.
"Let us get going now before we get caught." I suggested.
"Relax. How about we search my father's room?" She asked. That was a brilliant idea, we could get more information.
"Okay. But let us make it quick. We cannot afford to be caught. "I replied. We went ahead to her father's room. Strangely enough, it was not locked. It was all scattered. We went on by checking the ins and outs of the room. But we found nothing.
"I don't think your father would be this dense to drop something useful in his room." I suggested as I folded my arms.
"Found one!" Diane said as she brought to me a burner phone. "I knew it, he is plotting something. Else, why does he use a burner phone?" She asked. We proceeded to check all the messages on the phone. But what I saw was unbelievable! One of the messages was to my father's real number. I double checked just to be sure;
" Where are you? I need the drugs right away. "
That was what it stated. It was obviously meant for me. My father was arrested for laundering of hard illegal drugs. I could not believe my eyes. Diane looked at me and asked what was wrong. I was too devastated to tell her. My father and her father were acquaintances. But, honestly, it did not mean that my father was involved in her mother's death just because he delivered drugs to him. I rushed out of the building trying to wrap up everything in my head.
"How on earth did the both of them meet? Is my family getting involved now? I thought there would be no problem from my side, but now, my father. Ewan, calm down and think carefully. The fact that he delivered hard drugs to him does not mean he was involved in Diane's mother's death. What on earth should I do now? How am I going to inform her?" I thought.
Before I knew it, Diane was right beside me.
"Are you troubled because your father might be involved?" She asked. I did not tell her about it, so I wondered where she heard it from.
"How did you know?" I asked." It was obvious. But listen, I don't care whether it is your father or not. You decided to assist me in my revenge. So, whatever happens? If your family is involved or not, get a grip and let us deal with them all. Those who did wrong should surely face the consequences, is that not so?" She asked. I looked at her with bloody eyes. If somehow my family is involved, my life would be over. Trying to comprehend the whole issue was not easy. I sat down wherever I had to and stared at the ground. Maybe my life was over! Maybe I should not proceed further. I did not know what to decide.
