Wrecking Ball

Dominic POV

The operating room doors creaked open again, and this time, the doctor emerged with a bright smile lighting up his face. Gone the somber expression of earlier, replaced by a look of triumph. My heart, which had been weighed down with dread, suddenly soared with hope. I knew before he even spoke that he carried good news.

One of the doctors, a spectacled man with kind eyes, approached me and said, "Miss Pierce has made it through the critical phase. The injection we administered to restart her heart was successful, and it's now beating normally again. However, given that her heart had stopped for nearly an hour, her recovery will need careful monitoring. She'll be moved to the recovery room shortly, and you can see her there."

Relief washed over me, and I couldn't stop myself from pulling the doctor into a hug. "Thank you, doctor. Thank you so much." My voice was thick with emotion, the gratitude almost choking me.
