"About cooking in the kitchen, it's because she mentioned wanting my homemade chicken soup... The day before was because she..."

"The cake looks wonderful and tastes delicious, I appreciate it," I commented.

Patrick was momentarily at a loss for words.

I ignited the candles and made a wish, hoping my upcoming trip would go well.

"I truly appreciate it," I reiterated.

Patrick interjected, "...Vallerie, are you paying attention to me?"

"I heard you, and it's okay. You two are childhood friends, that's normal. I was immature before, but it won't happen again," I responded. "There's no possibility," Patrick insisted.

A flash of concern crossed Patrick's face.

"Won't you try a slice? This cake is really excellent. Their bakery has improved," I said, cutting him a piece.

"Vallerie, are you... really not upset? Not bothered?"

"Look at you, I said I'm not upset. Everyone has close friends, don't they?" I smiled.

Patrick gave me an odd look.
