"What on earth are you talking about?" Nora exclaimed, her eyes wide with shock. "Mom, have you lost your mind? Eva was perfectly fine when we left her at the hospital—how could she possibly be dead? Is this Ian's doing?"
Her mother let out a weary breath. "Nora, I'm telling you the truth. Eva has passed away. I would never lie about something like this."
Nora abruptly ended the call and turned to me, seething. "Ian, you're despicable. You'd go to such lengths just to keep me from Julian? And my mom, falling for your lies—I can't believe it. I don't understand what she sees in you—you excel at everything except what truly matters!"
Due to my close ties with her mother, Nora couldn't even trust her own mother's words.
At that instant, Julian spoke up. "I can't believe you'd resort to such tactics just to keep Nora and me apart. Come on, Nora. Let's get out of here. I can't stand being around him anymore."
