Time slipped away as I systematically filled my suitcase. Adrian returned home unexpectedly early, just as I was nearing completion. I had assumed he wouldn't be back tonight.
"Madeline," he uttered, his tone a mix of bewilderment and growing comprehension. "What's going on?" He swiftly approached, eyeing the open luggage on the bed.
"Did you locate the youngster?" I inquired, continuing to neatly arrange clothes with practiced ease.
Disregarding my question, he snatched the garments from my grasp. "I asked, what are you doing? Why are you packing??" The urgency in his voice contrasted sharply with his earlier casual departure.
I perched on the bed's edge, my face deliberately impassive. "Adrian, I've chosen to pursue advanced training at a hospital in another city. I'm departing tomorrow."
His astonishment was almost amusing. "Training? Another city? Why wasn't this discussed? We need to talk about this!"
