After Adrian made that vow, he began returning home punctually every day. I was preoccupied with my upcoming training program and didn't pay much heed to anything else.

One weekend, a welcome diversion came in the form of a coworker's invitation to go shopping. I informed Adrian of my plans, and he appeared relieved, saying, "I have to work extra hours this weekend, so I can't come along. Enjoy your time with your colleague."

His response rekindled my suspicions, but I pushed them aside, clinging to the faint hope that perhaps things had indeed changed.

However, it seemed fate had a cruel sense of irony. As I turned a corner in the shopping center, my heart skipped a beat. There, in a vibrant children's eatery, sat Adrian. Jesse was perched on his lap, a bundle of laughter and tomato sauce, while Sophie, the embodiment of domestic bliss, doted on them both.
