"What's your connection to this?" Adrian stammered, bewildered. "Why are you involved?" He shook off Tyler's grip and released mine before positioning himself between us.
Tyler's vehicle was nearby. He gazed at me wordlessly before replying tersely, "I'm her advisor."
"I'm her spouse," Adrian retorted. "This matter is between Madeline and myself. It doesn't concern you." His voice was laced with animosity towards Tyler.
"Don't you think mutual respect is crucial in a relationship?" Tyler responded, his words a subtle provocation.
Adrian hesitated. The statement's irony hung heavily in the atmosphere. Respect had been noticeably lacking in his behavior throughout our marriage.
He'd dismissed my previous emotional outbursts. Now that I was indifferent, he viewed it as unreasonable.
With a derisive noise, Adrian disregarded Tyler, seized my arm once more, and began pulling me away. "We're heading back, Madeline."
