The journey felt like an endless stream of unwelcome chatter. "Madeline, I've prepared your preferred dish. I'll prepare it when we arrive. Are you famished?"
"Madeline, how long will your training last? Your mother reached out to me as well. She believes it's time for us to start a family...."
"Adrian," I cut in, interrupting his self-centered rambling. "Why involve my mother in this?"
The sudden screech of rubber on asphalt startled me. Adrian veered to the roadside, the vehicle lurching to a stop. "Madeline, can we reconsider the divorce? I merely wanted Mom to reason with you."
"You informed my mother about our separation?" My anger was genuine now.
